Thursday. More amazing weather with big wind in the forecast for Friday.

DSC_1307-Edit-2-Edit-Edit
There’s not much wind out there this morning, and there’s not much gradient either. But that doesn’t mean it won’t be windy today. A low pressure system will make its way onshore this afternoon, and that will bump up the gradients through the Gorge. You can expect a slow build to gusty 21-24 from Stevenson to Doug’s by mid-afternoon. For the low wind hours this morning, you can go fishing. There were 8409 Chinook that got past Bonneville yesterday and 803 Steelhead. Continued after the chart.

Today’s Gorge Wind – these are ranges for the average speed, not a predicted wind range. =)

Gorge Wind Forecast, continued…

Tomorrow sees quite a different setup, and one that will be appreciated by high-wind enthusiasts of all sorts. High pressure sets up off BC and low pressure sets up in the desert. Models suggest 24-28 right off the bat. That seems optimistic given the cool overnight temps, so let’s roll with low to mid 20’s from Swell to Doug’s tomorrow morning. The wind will build to 28-32 by late morning from Viento to Rufus, filling in at Stevenson and Arlington by mid-afternoon. If the models are correct, we could see periods of 30+ at both the Rowena and Rufus stretches of river. Will the direction be correct out by Maryhill? Your guess is as good as mine – I seem to have about a 20% success rate out there!

The models for the weekend are still disagreeing on details. As of right now, it looks like we’ll see westerlies at 13-16 on Saturday and easterlies at 28-32 on Sunday. But… well… silly models…

Out on the coast, you will find some waves, if nothing else (north/central/south). Today: LTV, W swell 6′ @ 12 seconds. Tomorrow: LTV/LTV/25-30, NW 5′ @ 12. Saturday: 20-25/25-30/30+, W 7′ @ 10.

Jones n’ Sauvie’s beta test forecast. Jones today, 20-23. Jones tomorrow, 13-16. Jones Saturday, 5-10. Sauvie’s today, 5-8. Sauvie’s tomorrow, 5-8. Sauvie’s Saturday, 10-13+.

Random Morning Thoughts

Almost everyone is afraid to let their inner world show in public. We worry that we’ll be judged. We worry that we’ll be rejected. We worry that we’re weird and messed up and not like anyone else. We worry that if we show our messy inner worlds to people, we’ll be left alone and isolated, locked out of our communities, left to fend for ourselves.

I just started a grad school program where everyone I’ve met so far is being real and authentic. Nobody is putting up a mask of perfection. We barely know each other, and we’re letting the cracks in our personalities show.

Know what happens when you let your cracks show? (no, not your butt crack, sillies!)

The light shines out.

And light draws people to you.

I see this in action in myself at school: I love these people. I have so much respect and admiration for each and every one of them.

The more real you are, the more true to your heart you are, the more people will love you. And the more you will encourage other people to be the same way. When we are real, we can connect. When we connect, we are fully human.

Take a risk today and be real. Let someone know how imperfect you are – let them know you are deathly afraid of elevators or that you are certain you’ll never find love or that you were a victim of a crime or … well, the list goes on and on. Be you, be real, and you will draw people to the light shining through the cracks in your veneer of perfection. Have an awesome day.

McCurdy Farms, Hood River

Need pears? Need apples? Need a suggestion for a good bike ride around here? The McCurdy Farms fruit stand halfway up Peggy’s Roost Hill (2080 Tucker Road, just below Portland Drive) has the best prices on the best fruit and the best ride suggestions too. Fruit prices are $.50-$.75/lb for beautiful pears and apples. Cycling advice is free. They have lots of my favorite pears, Comice. Maybe they have your favorites too. Stop by and say hi to Natalie and Craig when you ride by on your Valley Loop bike ride. Come back later for lots of fruit and suggestions on other rides. McCurdy Farms – the secret fruit stand not on the Fruit Loop map. Visit today.
