Gratitude Month, day 10: Today I am grateful to my friends at Dirty Fingers for making cycling such a huge part of my life, and for supporting me in my quest to be as fast and as strong as possible.

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast
The snowfall on Mt. Hood is not falling at this time. We’ll see the free air freezing level (FAF) at 10,000′ today with SW wind at 10-20. No precip. Tomorrow sees the FAF at 10,000′ early, rising to 12,000′ in the afternoon. Wind will be SW 10-15 early, swinging to S 20 in the afternoon as a (not-very-)cold front approaches.
Rain starts around 7am on Tuesday, as the snow level drops from 10,000′ to 8000′. It will fall to 6500′ by 4pm, and should drop to 5000′ by Wednesday morning. We’ll only see about .2-.4” water value (WV) out of this system, but it’s going to fall as rain, and will fall before the snow level drops below 6500′. Sorry. No snow for you. Wind will be S 20-30 early, swinging to SW 25-30 from 7am on.
Next chance for significant precip is on Thursday. As of now, it looks like there’s 1-2” WV with this system, but it also looks like the vast majority will fall as rain. That could change if the storm track changes, but as of now, it doesn’t look pretty. We will see some orographic snow showers after the storm moves east, but I’m hesitant to put a number on the inches at this point. Pray for snow!
Plain Old Local Weather
It looks partly cloudy to cloudy today. Tomorrow starts partly cloudy, becoming more cloudy in the afternoon. We may see some sprinkles Monday night into Tuesday.
Gorge Wind Forecast
In an interesting twist this morning, it’s blowing 6mph at Stevenson and 30-something at Rooster. I am surprised by this. I guess you should go to Rooster for 28-32 today, and wait and see what Stevenson and the downwinder stretch of river does? Coming up tomorrow, you can expect 26-30 at Stevenson and 30-40 at Rooster. Tuesday brings light easterlies in the morning and light westerlies in the afternoon.
Road and Mountain Biking
The dirt is more like mud everywhere except Syncline, where the dirt is perfect. But the real story is the dry roads. Ride them while you can.

The Mt. Hood Independent Film Festival continues today. If you weren’t there last night, you missed some great outdoor-themed movies. You may be able to catch some of them this evening at the second showing of the award winners. In Post Canyon today, Lobos moto club of Portland has a poker run. And the Rugby folks play pickup at 3pm in Mosier. And of course, the Seahwaks play at 10am.
