Good morning!

It’s snowing from 4000’ on up. It’s pouring rain below that. The temp is dropping rapidly on Mt. Hood, and that’s a good sign for good skiing later.

The snow level will keep dropping today, hitting 3000’ by 1pm and dropping further to 1500’ late in the day. Snowfall will be moderate to heavy all day, with total accumulation of 1.5-2.0” of water value for 12-14” of new by 10pm, with snowfall decreasing rapidly after that. Winds today will be SW 35-35, building to WSW 45-50 by 1pm, switching to a nasty 40-45+ by 4pm and going to an equally nasty WNW 40-50+ by 7pm.

Tomorrow looks like the polar opposite of today. We’ll see partly cloudy skies in the morning becoming clear in the afternoon. The free air freezing level will be 1500’ early going to 3500’ by 7pm. Other than a few flurries in the morning, there will be no accumulation.

Saturday starts off with the snow level at 2000’, theoretically, but another model shows 4500’ early. Snow starts falling around 4am, heavy through 10am, becoming moderate through 10pm and then drying after that. The snow that falls early will likely be heavy, rimed, maybe even graupel, with a chance of some freezing rain. Total precip will be .75-1.25”, for 7-10” of new snow. Winds will start at SW 30-40, decreasing to WSW 20-35 around 1pm.

Sunday looks a little problematic, but I have my fingers crossed. We’ll see rapid warming, with the snow level starting at 2000’ around 1am, rising to 5500-6000’ by 10am. Winds start at SW 20-25, building to WSW 40-50 by 10am, going to SW 50ish by 7pm. Total precip will be 1-1.5”+, but we’re going to have to wait a day or so for more detail to emerge from the models.

I love sunshine. I don’t love it as much as I love deep powder, but there’s something really, really good about seeing blue sky above and bright glare reflected from below. It just kinda makes me smile. Know what I’m saying? =)

Today will be clear, and it will be a great day to hit the BC if you can. I cannot, so you have to go for me. Winds will be light today, out of the west at 10-15mph. The free air freezing level will be 1000-1500’, hopefully keeping temps cool enough to keep the snow in perfect packed powder shape at the resorts.

Clouds move in sometime tonight, giving us a cloudy or partly cloudy day tomorrow with a chance of some snow flurries. Winds tomorrow start at NW 15-20, building to NW 25-35. The snow level will be around 1000-1500’. If you want a day on the hill with the slopes to yourself, tomorrow is the call.

Snowfall starts again on Tuesday, hitting Mt. Hood sometime around 4am. Total accumulation will be .5-.75” water value for 5-7” of new snow, most of that falling between 4am and 4pm. The snow level Tuesday morning starts at a very favorable 1000’, rising to a perfectly acceptable 3500’ by 1pm. Winds won’t be as favorable: They’ll be SW 30-40 early, building to a not-so-nice W 40ish by 1pm.

Wednesday starts out dry, with most of the precipitation headed north of us, unless the storm track changes. The snow level early will be 2000’, rising to 5000’ by 4pm, rising further to 6000’ by 7pm. Most of the precip associated with this warm front will fall between 7am and 1pm, hopefully sparing Mt. Hood the indignity of any liquid precipitation. Total precip will be .25-.5”, for 3-4” of heavy new snow. Winds Wednesday will be W 25-35 early, going to SW 35-40 by 1pm.

The snow level falls back to 4000’ by Thursday morning, falling further during the day, with 1.5-2.0” water value for a s**t-ton of new snow accompanied by a buttload of wind. At this point, it looks like we’ll see significant snow accumulation Friday through Sunday, but that’s a long ways out to make a call.
