That was a gorgeous sunset we had last night, and southerly flow over the Northwest will give us a good chance of beautiful sunsets for the next few nights. If it wasn’t pre-sunrise as I write this, I’d probably be commenting on the pretty sunrise too.

The southerly flow isn’t great for wind in the Gorge, but that’s not stopping the gradient from starting at .11. It’s hard to argue for light wind like the models predict with that kind of gradient. Since this is driven by an upper low moving east, I’ll say 18-22 this morning from Hood River to Arlington, fading out east by late morning and picking up to 23-26 from Stevenson to Doug’s this afternoon.

Tomorrow starts off with light wind in the 15-18 range, picking up to 22-25 in the afternoon as a cold front pushes in to the coast. Expect the strongest wind tomorrow to start near Hood River, switching to Stevenson as that front moves in later in the day.

Marine air pushes into Portland on Friday night, and we’ll wake up to wind on Saturday. We should start off with 23-26, and that should hold through much of the day, with the strongest wind from Stevenson to Hood River.

In after work, entertainment this evening, there’s the 5:30 Post and Pint ride out of Dirty Fingers. If you suffer through the muggy ride, you’ll get a cold drink after. Tomorrow is Tandem Friday. Grab your significant other and your tandem bike and meet at Ten Speed in Hood River.

Then, coming up this weekend, there’s the Cabrinha kite race on Saturday at the Sandbar at 9:30, and of course, don’t miss the Bigfoot Bash and Bounty in Home Valley. On Saturday night, swing by the Columbia Center for the Arts for the movie Patagonia Rising, about proposed dams in Patagonia.

Have an awesome day today!

We’re in a light wind pattern for the next couple of days as low pressure sits off the Oregon coast. We’ll start off with very light wind today, building to 7-12 this afternoon with thermal assistance. Tomorrow starts off in the 5-10 range, picking up to 13-15 in the afternoon if we are lucky as a system approaches the coast.

We should see a good marine push during the day on Friday. That gives us 10-13 to start, building to 17-20, maybe 21-24 in the afternoon and then stronger overnight. The strongest wind on Friday will probably be at Stevenson. Saturday looks a lot more promising for kiting and windsurfing with strong wind early in the morning fading as high pressure builds in the afternoon.

It’s Wednesday, and that means the regular Wednesday night events are going on. If you want a bike ride, there’s the women’s only Post and Pinot at Dirty Fingers Bike Repair at 5:30. There are sailboat races out of the Hood River Marina tonight, and there’s the Kayak Shed’s shop paddle leaving Husum at 5:30 to run the Class II+ Lower white Salmon and the Class III Middle White Salmon.

Coming up this weekend, it’s my personal favorite on Saturday, the Bigfoot Bash and Bounty, taking place in Home Valley. The fun starts with a huckleberry pancake breakfast at 8 and runs all day, finishing with a Bigfoot movie at 7pm. Also this weekend, there’s a pickup touch rugby game at the Mosier School at 4pm on Sunday.

Have an awesome day today!
