The Hood River Sister City Committee is immediately seeking candidates for a unique position that places a Hood River County resident in Japan for one year starting this summer. The Coordinator of International Relations position comes with a competitive salary and benefits package and living arrangements in Tsuruta, Japan, Hood River’s longtime sister city. The CIR works at the Tsuruta town office and is responsible for helping with exchange activities, maintaining communications between cities and teaching basic English to the townspeople. Superbowl Sunday was awesome at Meadows. If you’ve never had a chance to do that hike, it’s well worth it, especially if you like to be anaerobic.

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast
Today looks like another gorgeous day on Mt. Hood, with some high clouds possible early that give way to clear sky mid-morning. More clouds move in late tonight, signaling a change in the weather. The free air freezing level (FAF) today will be 8000′ early and 9000-10000′ in the afternoon. Wind will be W 15-20 in the morning, becoming SW 20 by noon and SW 30 in the evening. No precip.
Tuesday starts off cloudy. Two waves of precip move through: one starting between 5am and 8am and a heavier wave after 5pm. The snow level will be 6500′ early, holding around 6000′ until 5pm before dropping slowly: 5500′ around 5pm, 4500′ around 8pm and 3000′ around 2am Wednesday. We’ll see .1-.2” water value (WV) in the first wave. That will likely fall as rain sprinkles, or maybe as above-freezing snow. The second wave, containing .3-.4” WV, will likely be dense snow, giving us 1-3” of new by Wednesday morning. Wind on Tuesday will be S 40 early, SW 30-40 during the day, and WSW 30 overnight.
Wednesday starts off cloudy and dry, or partly cloudy and dry. The snow level will be 2500′ early and 4000′ in the afternoon. Snow starts mid-afternoon, with .4-.6” WV falling by Thursday morning, for 4-6” of new snow. Wind will be W 30 for much of the day, becoming SW 10 in the afternoon and rising overnight.
Thursday brings orographic snow flurries during the day with the snow level around 3000′ and WSW wind around 30mph. No real accumulation. Models are all agreeing on an atmospheric river (aka Pineapple Express) event moving in late Thursday or early Friday.
Gorge Wind
We have a .09 east gradient this morning with easterlies at 26-30 at Rooster and in the teens at Steven’s Locks. Expect that to hold through midday and then fade to 21-24 in the afternoon at Rooster. Tuesday starts with light east wind becoming W 15-18 in the afternoon. Wednesday looks like light west wind.
Gorge Weather
As if the weekend wasn’t gorgeous enough… Today is going to be equally amazing. We’ll see some high clouds this morning, but the sky will clear by midday. Expect temps in the mid-30’s early and mid-60’s this afternoon. Can you say “shorts and t-shirts?” Wind will be light east.
Kiss the beautiful weather goodbye, because we’ll see some sprinkles (and maybe rainbows) tomorrow morning before heavier rain moves in after 5pm. Temps Tuesday will be in the upper 40’s early and mid-50’s in the afternoon with light west wind. Wednesday looks showery (with rainbows) all day long. Temps will be around 40 degrees early and 50 degrees in the afternoon with light wind. Pineapple Express arrives Thursday afternoon or evening.
Road and Mountain Biking
Syncline, Post and Whoopdee are all riding great right now, although you may want to skip the first section of Whoopdee which tends to get rather muddy. Remember, the Kreps are putting cattle on their land starting today, so no parking along Spring Street between noon and 5pm all week, and NO DOGS on Hospital Hill between now and July 1st. That means everyone. Please spread the word, because the presence of your dog on the Kreps’ land could cost all of us access. Thank you!

On Monday night, as always, you can play indoor Ultimate Frisbee at 8pm at Horizon Christian School. Tomorrow night is pickup rugby at 5:30pm at Collins Field. It’s also $12 Prime Rib night at Cebu. Then on Wednesday, Gorge Grown shows the movie Hanna Ranch at Columbia Center for the Arts.
