12/18 Forecast

Good morning!

At this point, it looks like the dire predictions of massive amounts of rain and wind on the ski slopes are not coming to be. Thankfully. Although it’s not exactly powder up there, there is a ton of snow on the ground now, and it’s definitely worth spending some time on the slopes. If the temps hold, we’ll see 5-9” of snow later this afternoon, above 4500 feet, just in time for night skiing.

Speaking of skiing, it was awesome seeing all the cars in the HRM lot yesterday. I was feeling a little sad all those days with just a few rows. Hopefully everyone had a great time in the deep new concrete yesterday. I sure did!

Up there today, there’s not much more snow (2” overnight), but since it’s looking like the best day ‘til next week, you should go skiing. After today, snow levels are predicted to rise and hold through the weekend, making for a few wet days on the slopes. Of course, the forecasts have been wrong before, and a slight shift in the pattern could bring us lots of snow instead of lots of rain this weekend.

On the mountain biking side of things, it’s time to take your bike in for all that service you’ve been putting off. Trails are wet, muddy, and in danger of destruction if you ride them. I’m sure Mitchell at Dirty Fingers will be happy to fix all the broken bits on your bike this weekend (right Mitchell?). He was at the mountain yesterday, though, so might be a little sore today…

If you’re looking for wind, forget about it. There’s not much in the forecast for the Gorge, and the incoming rain is going to dump a bunch of debris in the water from rising river levels. Boaters, you’re in for some excitement over the next few days. I wish I was a boater…

Coming up this weekend, 2nd Wind, IPS and Timberline present the Hood River Downtown Showdown, a rail jam on 4th Street. That’s Saturday from 5pm to 10pm. Super sick!!! Come watch the best of the best ride the rail over concrete. Can you say carnage? And on Sunday, Meadows presents the NW Demo Tour, where ski and snowboard demos are free. If it’s raining, there won’t be anyone there except you, so it’s going to be a sweet opportunity to try out the newest, coolest rides!

Have a great day today!
