8/4 Forecast

This week’s forecast is brought to you by food. Specifically, Henni’s food. Henni’s Bar and Grill in White Salmon will feed you well, with everyday food from around the world concocted with passion and the finest locally-sourced ingredients. If your mama was from Mexico, she’d make you tacos. If she was from India, she’d make you curry. If she was from the USA, she’d make you killer mac n’ cheese. If Christiaan was your mama, he’d make you all of the above, better than your mom could make it.. Henni’s is open for lunch and dinner Monday-Friday and for dinner only on Saturday, with small plates from $4-9 and big plates from $14-18 and a killer happy hour. We’re giving away gift certificates this week, and then we’ve got a treasure hunt for you all next month. Stay tuned! I think Christiaan is rad, and I think his food is delicious, so cross the bridge (unless you’re in WA already), and go check out Henni’s.

Now, your forecast:

The setup’s starting to look a little better for wind in the Gorge with high pressure over the pacific and a trough along the coast keeping Portland cloudy in the mornings. It’s still light through the Gorge this morning, in the 10-15 range, but it’ll pick up to 15-18 by midday and then to 22-24 at Stevenson, the Hatch, and the Rowena section of the river this afternoon.

The Clymb: free membership.
Access to super cheap gear including Trew, Zeal, Sierra Designs, and many more.

Tomorrow looks even better, with cool air on the coast and low pressure to our east. We’ll have 20-23 early near Hood River, going to 24-27 from the Hatchery to Doug’s in the afternoon. I would say tomorrow looks like as good a day as we’ve had in a couple of weeks, so if you can get out there tomorrow, you should. Saturday starts off with 10-15, picking up to the upper teens to low twenties, and Sunday looks like a repeat of Saturday as far as the wind goes.

In events tonight, you’ve got two choices: It’s the final Bump n’ Glide standup paddle race, and it’s the Post and Pint ride out of Dirty Fingers. Bumpnglide info is at bumpnglide.com and the bike ride leaves the shop at 5:30 with free beer upon completion of the ride.

If you’ll be around on Saturday, watch for the sailboats racing the Double Damned race from Cascade Locks to The Dalles. Usually this is a pretty crazy race with super strong wind at the east end of the course, but it looks like it’s going to be an easy one this year. Also this weekend it’s the Super D at Oakridge, coupled with the Dirty Fingers annual campout (aka Mitchell’s birthday and pig roast festival). And don’t forget about the free showing of Second Chances on the big screen at Jackson Park Saturday night.
Have an awesome day today!

Now, your forecast:

We have a light start to the wind this morning with less clouds in Portland and south flow overhead. By afternoon, the wind should pick up to 15-18 from Stevenson to Mosier, with a chance of clouds from the south flow.

Tomorrow starts with 15-18 near Hood River, and then as the low pressure system tries to push onshore, the wind picks up to 22-24 at Stevenson and east of Hood River, filling in all the way to Arlington.

The Clymb: free membership.
Access to super cheap gear including Trew, Zeal, Sierra Designs, and many more.

We’ll finally see a static weather setup on Friday, which generally brings steadier wind. We’ll have 20-23 first thing in the morning at the Hatchery, filling in to 23-27 all the way from Stevenson to Doug’s in the afternoon. At this point, it’s looking like west wind will blow this weekend too, with low teens on Saturday and upper teens to low twenties on Sunday.

If you’re looking for stuff to do tonight, there’s the Kayak Shed’s paddle meeting at 5:30 at Husum, there are sailboat races from the Hood River Marina, and there’s the girls-only Post and Pinot ride leaving Dirty Fingers Bike Repair at 5:30. Tomorrow’s the co-ed Post and Pint ride and the last standup paddle race of the bump and glide series, and Friday is First Friday in Hood River.

If you’re waiting for the weekend, there’s the Double Damned sailboat race, the Oakridge Super D, the Dirty Fingers Campout, and at Jackson Park on Saturday night, the movie Second Chances on the big screen, brought to you by Hood River Community Ed.

Have an awesome day today!
