It’s going to be very windy today, Tuesday, at Stevenson and Rooster Rock. 30+ seems like a good call for Stevenson this morning, and 40+ seems reasonable for Rooster Rock. With the big gradients, even Hood River will see easterlies by midday in the 10-13 range. The weather should be lovely today as well, with plenty of sun, and since the sun’s going away tomorrow, you should enjoy it today.

There’s also going to be an inversion today, so if you ride your bike up at High Prairie and the 44 Road trails, it’s going to be warmer than it is down here in the valley. That’s not to say you shouldn’t ride Post Canyon. It’s pretty much perfect right now, especially the trails above Family Man.

Your wind forecast for the rest of the week includes a 5-10 start tomorrow, building to gusty, short-lived 23-26 out east in the afternoon, with a slight chance of showers. Thursday brings west wind in the 10-13 range.

For events this week, there’s Kayak Polo tonight at the Hood River Pool at 8pm. Saturday is the HRVHS gear swap. Saturday is also Post Canyon Shuttle day, where for $35 you get lunch and all-day shuttles in Post. Sign up ahead of time, or it’s $40 on Saturday. Money raised goes to the trailbuilders’ fund. Sunday is the Columbia Gorge Marathon.

Chance of snow below 8000’ in the next week: not so great. Chance of the mountain opening in the next two weeks: zero.

Have an awesome day today!

It’s a bit on the gloomy side this morning, with the Nothing spreading its wings over the Gorge. If it makes you feel any better, there are high clouds above the nothing, so we wouldn’t see blue skies even without the Gorge’s weather bane. In the past, Jimmy at 3 Rivers has promised 2-4-1 steak day will start the first Wednesday after the first inversion, so it might be worth a call if you’ve been waiting for steak night.

Looking ahead to the weather this week, we’ll see west wind at 13-15 late this afternoon. Monday brings east wind at 17-20. Tuesday brings easterlies at 24-28. On Wednesday, the wind switches to west as a front crosses the Cascades, for 23-26 out east.

For you mountain bikers, Post is good, if a little bit greasy. Reports are that Surveyor’s, Knebal, and 8-mile are in great shape. There was a Post Work Party yesterday, Saturday, on Bad Motor Scooter (#158). It’s in pretty good shape right now, and I’d suggest you ride it.

Coming up next weekend, it’s the Hood River Valley High School gear swap. Also next Saturday, there’s a fundraiser for the Post Canyon Trailbuilders’ Fund. $35 gets you all-day shuttles to the top along with a yummy lunch. Sunday the 30th is Meadows pass photo day at the Hood River Inn.

Chance of snow below 8000’ this week: 10%. Chance of the mountain opening in the next two weeks: 0%.
