It’s fall now, and that means it’s time for … more windsurfing and kiting! No, silly. It’s time to think about skiing.

Thank you Mitchell and the rest of the Dirty Fingers crew for a lovely time in the woods yesterday.

Wind guessings, prognosticatings and musings

We’re going to see an extended period of east winds of various strength as high pressure holds off the Oregon coast this week. Expect easterlies at 16-19 today, 24-28 tomorrow (maybe more at Rooster) and 15-18 on Wednesday.

Plain old weather

The weather, unless you’re a skier hoping for ski season, is going to be lovely this week. The only exception to weather perfection is Wednesday, when a few high clouds will temper the brilliant blue of the sky. Expect cool nights in the 30’s, a chance of morning inversion clouds, a temperature inversion, meaning if you ride your bike above the inversion, you’re going to find beautiful weather in the 60’s.

Mountain biking

Dirt report: the dirt is perfect from High Prairie down to Sawtooth. There are patches of snow and mud on Gunsight Ridge. Boulder Lake is riding great. Post is perfect. Syncline is perfect. There are chanterelles everywhere.

Events n’ stuff – Please email with upcoming events related to the outdoors

Tomorrow night, Tuesday is Ruins Tuesday, with indoor music and… aw fuck it. Anyone know if those safety-conscious people are still charging a $3 cover? Cover-free, but not animal product free, and definitely not fat free, tomorrow night is $12 Prime Rib night at Cebu.

Coming up Thursday, the 44 Trails Association has a party and fundraiser at Double Mountain. Come celebrate the opening of the SuperConnector trail.

I know there must be other stuff coming up this week, but it hasn’t made it on to my calendar yet. You should tell me if there are outdoor-related events I’m missing.

Have an awesome day today!

Just a warning that there will be no forecast for Sunday, 10/13. Thank you, and have a nice day.

Wind guessings, prognosticatings and musings

The fact that there’s no forecast coming tomorrow shouldn’t screw up your windsport or fishing or no-wind sport plans. Today we’ll see the wind build to gusty 13-15 from Stevenson to Mosier midday, holding through the evening. Tomorrow, though, looks calm as a Wall Street trader on Columbus Day. No wind. Neither east nor west. Monday brings east wind at 10-15.

Plain old weather

Today’s weak frontal system brings clouds and maybe a few sprinkles. Tomorrow starts with leftover frontal clouds and a round of inversion clouds, but by afternoon, the sky should be clear. Monday looks dry. Hell, all of next week looks dry and sunny, after a few morning clouds.

Up on Mt. Hood, the snow level today is 4500-5000′, with just trace accumulations. Tomorrow starts with the freezing level at 6000′, rising to 8000′ in the afternoon. On Monday, the freezing level will be 8000′ early and 10,000′ in the afternoon.

Mountain biking

Looking forward to 46 miles of dirt tomorrow.
