It’s fall now, and that means it’s time for … more windsurfing and kiting! No, silly. It’s time to think about skiing.

Random Morning Thoughts

This morning I found myself talking to my happy light. Must be getting close to winter.

Wind guessings, prognosticatings and musings

Easterly gradients chowed down some spinach overnight, and they’re big and strong this morning: .13 from Portland to The Dalles. That’s going to be enough for 26-30 at Steven’s Locks today with 30-35 at Rooster Rock. The wind will start fading early afternoon as the thermal low pressure trough moves further onshore.

As that trough moves further inland tomorrow, we’ll see the east wind turn to west. Expect light wind in the morning, perfect for a SUP or road bike ride or fishing. By late afternoon, the wind will build to 15-18 from Steven’s Locks to Mosier.

Sunday brings light wind here, but it looks like the central coast will see 15-18 out of the north. The coast does not look windy for the rest of the three-day period. However, there is a long-period swell starting to hit: 2@12 tonight, 3@13 tomorrow, 4@14 Sunday, and 8@(not sure yet) on Monday.

Plain old weather

Lovely, lovely, sunny and dry. So damn pretty, brings a tear to my eye. All the leaves are turning. Go out in the woods and take a look.

Mountain biking

I’m not much of a shuttle advocate, but it’s really worth shuttling Post Canyon right now. The dirt is truly lovely.

Events n’ stuff – Please email with upcoming events related to the outdoors

The Seahawks won, yet again, yesterday. This is getting boring. Maybe I’ll have to quit watching until they get worse.

Harvest Fest gets going today at the Event Site in Hood River. It continues through Sunday. In Odell, tomorrow and Sunday, it’s the Gorge Fruit and Craft Fair at the fairgrounds.

Tomorrow, Saturday, at 2pm, the 509ers have a work party on the White Salmon Bike Park. Get your hands dirty between 2pm and 5pm, and earn the everlasting love of the folks of the great town of White Salmon.

Have an awesome day today!

Random Morning Thoughts

You can blame McCurdy Farms for the late forecast this morning. That said, they do have delicious pears and apples. You can find this lovely fruit on Tucker Road hill, just south of Portland Drive.

Wind guessings, prognosticatings and musings

Not much changing in wind world: The gradient was E .06 at 9am, and that’ll be enough to give us easterlies at 20-23 at Stevenson and Rooster today. The east wind picks up to 23-26 at Stevenson and 26-30 at Rooster tomorrow, and backs off on Saturday.

Looking ahead to early next week at the coast, there’s a long-period 10′ swell coming in. Not sure yet if it’s going to be windy, but the waves should be spectacular.

Sunny. Lovely. Very nice for the next week or so.

Mountain biking

Yes, the dirt is perfect. But with the government reopened, Poachtober is over.

Events n’ stuff – Please email with upcoming events related to the outdoors

Tonight at 5:25pm, the Seahawks play the Cardinals.

Also tonight, there’s a fundraiser for the 44 Trails Association at Double Mountain from 6pm-10pm. These are the folks making things happen on the 44 Road trails, so show up, place a bid in the silent auction, and meet some cool mountain bikers. Also in mtb world tonight, the HRATS have a BOD meeting at the HR fire station at 6pm.

In Hood River tomorrow, it’s the kickoff of Harvest Fest, so be prepared for lots of traffic (both foot and car) downtown. Then on Saturday, Harvest Fest continues. Saturday evening from 2-5, the White Salmon Bike Park has a work party from 2pm to 5pm.

Have an awesome day today!
