Good morning,

It still feels like early spring this morning with more clouds and rain. The western gorge will stay cloudy today, with west wind in the 16-19 range, but east of The Dalles, the wind will be in the 21-24 range early, picking up to 24-28 this afternoon. Actually, it’s already blowing in the mid twenties (27 at Arlington, if you trust that sensor, which you shouldn’t… it reads about 5mph high), but the most reliable wind will be late morning to early afternoon today, so you may want to wait a bit, especially given the huge band of rain just east of Arlington.

Tomorrow looks light as an upper low sets up off the coast. Saturday brings east wind in the 17-20 range. Sunday looks glassy and hot with a high in the low 80’s. Monday and Tuesday are a long ways out, but at this point they both look super windy. If they really do end up super windy, I have brand new 2.9 and 3.2 Hot Sails Superfreak that you can come try out. They’re pretty amazing in super strong wind.

Okay, on to events. Tonight is the Post and Pint, but it’s pretty muddy in Post, so call dirty Fingers to find out if the ride is on (it’s probably off). From now on, there will be the Post and Pint on Thursday, and for women only, the Post and Pinot, brought to you by Naked Winery and Dirty Fingers, on Wednesdays, with free mechanical clinics after the ride. Coming up tomorrow, the Disco Divas ride some dirt. If you want to join that ride, email barbaralmurphy@hotmail.com.

In road riding world, today is the beginning of the Mt. Hood Cycling Classic, so hello to all you racers out there and good luck. Road bikers who aren’t racing, the slower paced Saturday ride is on starting this week. It’s meeting at 8:30 (where) and heading either to Cooper Spur or to Parkdale. They’re hoping for two groups, a 15mph and a 13mph, so you have no excuse not to ride. Also, it sounds like there’s going to be a Thursday slower paced ride as well, starting next week.

In other news, there’s the Black Dog Dual Sport ride on Saturday and Sunday, the Tour de Hood organized bike ride Saturday and Sunday, and there’s a whitewater race on the class V Little White on Saturday. Oh yeah, and there’s the Kayak Shed’s shop paddle on Saturday, meeting at the shop at 10am.

If you need new gear, there’s a swap from noon ‘til 3 at the White Salmon Spring Festival. Drop off your gear between 4 and 6:30 tomorrow evening. Also tomorrow evening it’s First Friday in Hood River.

Finally, if you want to go rafting on Saturday, call Wet Planet, mention this report, and get $5 off the Klickitat trip.

Holy **** there’s a lot going on. Did I miss anything?

Have an awesome day today!

Good morning,

It’s another cloudy morning in the Gorge. We have light wind in the 10-15 range this morning, but we’ll see that pick up a bit into the 17-20 range this afternoon as a low pressure system moves east.

Coming up tomorrow, another low pressure system sets up, giving us 5-10mph wind in the morning. Models are all over the place with the wind speed in the afternoon. One shows 16-19 and the other shows 27-31. I think the second model is too optimistic, as we’ll have no high pressure support off the coast and yet another low pressure system moving in. So, let’s call it 17-20 tomorrow afternoon. Another strong low pressure system rotates off the coast on Friday for light wind in the Gorge.

Coming up this weekend, we’re going to see warm weather, hot actually (Cathy, I believe we have a date on Saturday) and east winds, sailable/kiteable on Saturday in the 20-24 range. Sunday is a little far to make the call, but looks light at this point. The north coast looks like 15-20 on Saturday with 6ft and light on Sunday with 8ft.

Wednesday is a busy night in the Gorge. Tonight’s the first Hood River Triathlon practice of the year. Meet at 6pm at the east end of the Event Site for a 500 yard swim, a 2 mile run and a 7 mile bike ride. Everyone is welcome, especially beginner triathletes. Also tonight is the Kayak Shed’s shop paddle, meeting at Husum at 5:30 (the WS’s around 4.5 ft), and the sailboat races.

Coming up this weekend, it’s the Mt. Hood Cycling Classic. If you want to watch, the best place to see suffering is at the top of Sevenmile Hill on Friday. If you want high-speed excitement, check out the Crit in downtown Hood River on Saturday.

In case you were wondering, the Hood River Weather website reports triple the normal amount of rain for May and an unofficial rainfall record for the month. Cross your fingers that June is better!

Have an awesome day today!
