There’s delicious food at Cebu and Riverside. This is truly one of my favorite places to both eat and to hang out. The food was lovely last year, but now there’s a new menu. Yummy spinach salad. And pork ribs over polenta. And of course, there’s always the best happy hour in the Gorge, 4-6pm, Monday-Friday with the awesomest burger around. And $12 Prime Rib on Tuesday. Print or show this ad on your phone for buy one, get one half off at Riverside, Sunday-Thursday, through February 28, 2014.

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast

It’s mostly cloudy on Mt. Hood this morning with occasional flurries drifting about. Or maybe not flurries. Maybe just snowflakes. We’ll see more of the same for much of the day with no accumulation. The snow level today will be 500′ early and 1000′ in the afternoon. Wind will be W 10 early and W 20 in the afternoon.

Monday looks partly cloudy, with enough low clouds to drop a few flurries and a btter chance of full-on clearing in the afternoon. No accumulation. The snow level will be at the surface all day. Temps at 5000′ will be in the upper teens early, falling to the mid teens in the afternoon. Wind will be NW 20-30 early and 15-20 in the afternoon.

Tuesday looks clear and cold. The free air freezing level (FAF) will be at the surface all day with 5000′ temps in the single digits early, dropping below zero late in the day. Wind will be variable strength out of the north. Wednesday looks clear and several degrees below zero at the ski resorts with variable wind, depending on how deep the cold pool ends up being.

Next chance for significant precipitation is next Saturday when the (notoriously unreliable) long-range models predict a tropically-fed warm system coming in over the top of this cold air. At this point, it looks like we’ll get a few hours of wet snow out of this before it switches to heavy rain.

Gorge Weather

It’s cloudy in the Gorge this morning, and with east wind blasting away at Stevenson and Rooster, it’ll likely stay cloudy today. Temps will be in the low 30’s early and the upper 30’s this afternoon. Tomorrow looks mostly cloudy with temps in the upper 20’s early and low 30’s in the afternoon. We may see some flurries tomorrow during the day, but no real accumulation. Tuesday looks clear and cold, with temps in the low 20’s all day. Wednesday looks clear and fucking cold, with lows in the single digits.

This is a another chance for you to see the frozen Gorge waterfalls. And… if we stay cloudy tomorrow, you may get a chance to see rime ice on the exposed hills again. Not deep rime ice like last week, but rime ice nonetheless.

Next chance for disastrous Gorge weather is next Saturday, when warm, wet air comes in over the top of this chilly air mass, for a snowy start that transitions to sleet or freezing rain, depending on how things shake out. Wait and see as we get closer.

Gorge Wind Forecast

The easterlies are back this morning, with a .09 gradient driving upper teens at Stevenson and mid-30’s at Rooster. The easterlies will slowly fade this afternoon. Expect east wind at 15-18 tomorrow morning. We’ll see easterlies at 40-50 on Tuesday and 50-60 on Wednesday.

Road and Mountain Biking

Apparently Post is muddy in spots, so maybe let it be. But reports are that Syncline is in great shape. Get it before we head into a freeze-thaw cycle.

Random Morning Thoughts

It might be weeks after my birthday, but one more birthday card showed up in my PO Box this morning. It was the funniest thing I’ve ever read. Oh. My. God. And the empty Capri Sun package… beyond hilarious. I know. You guys have no idea what I’m talking about, but suffice it to say that I haven’t laughed that hard in years. That’s a good way to start the day.

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast

Most important news today: Mt. Hood Skibowl will open the Multorpor Chairlift today. Day and shift tickets are discounted to $35 for adult and $30 junior. The Lower Bowl chairlift will also open for the first time this season Saturday at 3:00pm, providing transport to the Multorpor chairlift, with one run open to return to the Skibowl west base facilities. Along with the chairlifts, the West Rope Tow terrain park will be open with 10 rail features, as well as the Parking Lot rope from 9:00am to 11:00pm for day and night skiing. Yay, Skibowl!

Looks like the snow is done falling until next weekend, but there will be plenty of sun. We had a few flurries this morning, but now the sky is clear. The free air freezing level (FAF) will be 1500′ in the morning and 500′ in the afternoon with variable wind to 15mph.

Sunday looks sunny, becoming partly cloudy in the afternoon as a system swings by off the coast. There will also be low clouds that may rise to ski area base elevations. The FAF will be at the surface early, rising to 500′ in the afternoon. Wind will be light and variable early, rising to NW 15 in the afternoon.

Monday looks partly to mostly cloudy with a chance of a few flurries. It’s going to be very cold on Monday, with 5000′ temps in the low teens, at best. Wind will be NW 20 all day. Tuesday looks even colder, with clear sky and north wind.

Next chance for measurable precipitation is next weekend.

Gorge Weather

I forgot to look at the sky this morning, but it wasn’t raining and it wasn’t sub-freezing, so it must be at least partly cloudy. Expect partly to mostly cloudy sky with sunbreaks today with temps in the upper 30s early and low 40’s in the afternoon. Sunday looks colder and partly to mostly cloudy, with temps in the upper 20’s in the morning and upper 30’s in the afternoon. Monday looks partly cloudy and sub-freezing all day. Tuesday and Wednesday look sunny and really cold in the Gorge, with temps in the teens overnight and 20’s during the day. Brrrr.

Gorge Wind Forecast

Hopefully you had your fill of wind last week, because it’s going to be lighter for a few days. Expect light wind today. Expect easterlies at 25-29 tomorrow, fading to light east wind in the afternoon. Monday starts off light and picks up to E 25-29 in the afternoon. Tuesday looks like east wind at 40 and Wednesday looks like E 50.

Road and Mountain Biking

The road riding was nice yesterday. Anyone have any trail reports?

The Cold Lap cyclocross ride is at Dirty Fingers at 3pm today. On Sunday, there’s supposed to be ping pong at 3pm at the Armory ($5) and Pickup Rugby in Mosier (free), but there’s this thing called the Superbowl, featuring a team called the Seattle Seahawks, at 3:30. Watch it with BBQ at Dirty Fingers.
