Good morning,
Windance is your source for just about everything: Kiteboarding, windsurfing, SUP, snow, surf, with a knowledgeable poser-free sales force there to help you choose the right gear. Plenty of demos ensure that you’ll love what you buy. Plus, Windance has the Gorge’s largest selection of used gear and 3 swap meets (next one: July 1st). Not only does Windance bring you great gear and great service, they bring you great parties, with free food, free beer, and the chance to hang out with all your wind-loving friends. Windance, open 7 days a week, 8am-6pm. The people who’ve donated have a chance to win a free wetsuit this week. Now, don’t you want to donate? =)
Before you read on, please remember that this report (wind, snow and events!) is brought to you free of charge. Nobody pays me to do this unless you do! If the report saves you time, money, keeps you in the loop, or just helps you have more fun, please take the time to
make a donation. Suggested minimum: $12. That gets you on the mailing list and in the running for prizes. That’s $1/month You pay more than that in gas driving to the beach or the mountain. I know I’ve saved you that much. Kick down! Thank you for your support!
In an interesting twist this morning, the gradient is at .09 from Portland to The Dalles and there’s zero wind on the Columbia. With that gradient to start, we should see the wind pick up to 15-18 from Stevenson to Hood River by midday, picking up to 15-18 at Mosier and Doug’s late.. Tomorrow starts off with west wind at 15-18, dying pretty quickly as high pressure builds in.
Sunday starts off with 10-15, picking up to 17-21 in the afternoon, but more important than the wind is the significant chance of thunderstorms on Sunday afternoon, meaning that along with hard-to-predict wind and squalls, we could see a bit of unpredictable rain too.
If you use the trails in Post Canyon, think about joining the Hood River Area Trail Stewards for a work party tomorrow on the Hood River Enduro course. This is a good chance to see some trails that you might not have seen before, if you usually stick to lower Post. HRATS will be getting the course buffed out for next weekend’s race. Meet at 10 Speed Roastery at 13th and State at 8:30 to help out, and you might just go home with some great raffle prizes.
This weekend is also Windfest weekend at the Hood River Event Site. Come on by to check out all the latest gear, or better yet, if you’ve always wanted to try windsurfing, come on by for free beginner lessons brought to you by Big Winds. Windfest is both Saturday and Sunday, and on Sunday morning, there’s a multi-sport swap meet across the street at the Expo Center parking lot.
If you’re free Saturday night, swing by the British Pub for Big Wheel racing to benefit Kiteboarding for Cancer. Yes, big wheels, like you used to ride when you were little enough. Now you can ride them when you’re too big, and support a good cause.
Have an awesome day today!
