First thing today, I’d like to say thank you to all of you who donated during August pledge drive month. There was never a day where I didn’t post a forecast, because every day someone donated. Thank you to all of you both for using this forecast and for supporting it! Remember that although it’s free for you to use, it’s not free for me. I put a lot of time into giving you an accurate forecast, and I pay for the hosting on this website. If you find it valuable, please take the time to make a donation to support what I do. Your generosity helps keep this going for everyone. I also send an email version of this forecast. Make a $12 or larger donation, and you’re on the email list for a year. No more dealing with the twice-yearly pledge drive, and you’ll also have a chance to win prizes from the sponsors. Thank you again for your support!

This week’s sponsor is Dirt Hugger, offering curbside food waste collection service for your business, school, office, store, restaurant or hospital in Hood River and The Dalles. All that food waste becomes awesome compost for your garden, yard, farm or vineyard. You can pick up that compost or have it delivered. If we as a society can’t make composting happen through our cities and counties, at least we can make it happen through a cool local business. This is one of my favorite businesses in the Gorge. Support them, please

Models are calling for another day of east wind today, with the wind rising to 15-18 in Stevenson and Rooster, before the wind slowly dies and switches to westerlies at 13-15 late in the afternoon.

It looks like we’ll start off with light westerlies tomorrow, before the wind swings back around and switches to light easterlies. On Thursday, we’ll see west wind at 10-15 or so, along with some high clouds and muggier weather. In other words, the next couple of days are going to be great for SUPing and wakeboarding and road biking, but not so great for wind sports.

In the extended forecast, westerlies pick up into the low twenties on Friday and then, if the forecast holds, blow in the upper twenties to low thirties on Saturday and Sunday. I can almost guarantee it will be super windy on Saturday and Sunday, as I’ll be at the Dirty Fingers mountain biking campout! (In other words, no forecast for you this weekend, sorry.)

For fun tonight, join the pickup touch rugby crowd at Hood River’s Marina at 6pm, or join the Columbia Gorge triathletes as they do their weekly workout, starting at the east end of the Event Site at 6pm.

Coming up this weekend, there will be cyclists all over the roads in the Gorge, so hopefully the a**hole who threw the tacks on Dee Highway won’t do it again. The Echelon Gran Fondo will send roadies on old highway 30 and the out towards Odell on Saturday. On Sunday, Gorge Owned sends bike commuters on the Super Commuter Race, a scavenger hunt, through Hood River. To join that race, show up at Tsuruta Park at 13th and State at 10am. And finally, in mountain bike world, it’s the Dirty Fingers annual customer appreciation party and campout this weekend.

Have an awesome day today!

It looks like the Gorge has locked into an east wind pattern. This morning we’ll see the easterlies pick up to 17-21 at Stevenson and 21-24 at Rooster Rock. The east wind should hold at 15-18 or more all the way through sunset.

We’ll see easterlies at 15-18 tomorrow morning. The should hold through noon before we see a slow fade to glassy conditions. Overnight Tuesday into Wednesday, a low pressure system sets up off the coast, giving us some high clouds, muggy weather, and east wind at 10-15. There’s a chance of westerlies at 15-18 Thursday, but I’m not going to suggest you plan for a day off work or take any other drastic measures to chase that forecast.

If you’re making plans for next weekend, make sure you pencil in the Grominator Skate contest at Hood River’s skate park on Saturday. It’s going to be super fun to watch. Also next weekend, there’s the Echelon Gran Fondo, with 30, 60 and 90 mile options for supported rides where you raise money for your favorite charity. For mountain bikers next weekend, Dirty Fingers has their annual customer appreciation party and campout, with food, drinks, and shuttle service on epic trails. Call the shop for more details.

Finally, next weekend is Gorge Owned’s Super Commuter Bike Race as part of bike commute month. This is a super fun scavenger hunt, where you can win great prizes from local businesses. And don’t forget that you can still commit to ride your bike to work this month and win great prizes by going to bikecommutechallenge.com.

Have an awesome day today!
