Sunday. I know, I know, I said there would be a forecast Saturday and not Sunday. I was wrong. Like I’m wrong with the weather sometimes. =)

DSC_6338-Edit
Two point one eight inches of rain in the last 24 hours. That’s what’s fallen on the barren slopes of the Cascade mountains. The rain will continue today with the snow level at 8000′-9000′. We’ll see .6” or so by the afternoon, followed by .3” overnight. Mother Nature’s wee-wee will stop in the wee hours of Monday morning. Wind today will be a blustery SW 50 early, SW 70 in the afternoon and WSW 55 overnight. Continued below the chart…

The snow level will be 3000′ early and 9000′ in the afternoon, falling to 6500′ overnight. Wind will be W 30 early, swinging to SW 15 in the afternoon and rising to SW 25 overnight.

Tuesday opens up with mixed mid-level clouds and sun and stays that way. The free air freezing level will be 6000-6500′ early and 5500′ in the afternoon. Wind will be SW 25-30 all day. Maybe, just maybe, we’ll see some snow next weekend.

Gorge Wind

We have a light wind start to the day as the rain falls on the Gorge. Expect the light wind to continue through the day, becoming strong west wind overnight. Don’t leave your garbage cans outside. Tomorrow starts will light W and switches to light E. Expect a light and variable (LTV) start on Tuesday with gusty W 13-16 in the afternoon.

Random Morning Thoughts

Yesterday we were doing sound check for Interesting, and I felt compelled to take the mic. Here’s what I said: “What we’ve got here is failure to communicate. Some men you just can’t reach. So you get what we had here last week. Which is the way he wants it. So he gets it.” Some of you will recognize the quote from the movie Cool Hand Luke. Some of you will recognize it from the Guns n’ Roses song Civil War.

Axl, Slash and Duff have a point: all war is civil war. You see, when we look around the world and we see “us” and “them”, and when “they” look at us and see “not-us”, we have the basis for conflict. The truth of the matter is we are all humans, all one species, and we all live on one one planet. When we fight each other, we have civil war among the species and we endanger our only home.

We only appear to be separate nations. We only appear to be different colors. We only appear to speak different languages. Inside, we are all human, and we all speak the language of human emotion. When we create “us” vs. “them”, we are creating a falsehood. The truth is we are human. There is no them. They are we and we are them. If we reach out to someone who looks different or speaks a different personal truth, and we try to make connections, we move one step closer to ending humanity’s civil war.

(don’t forget that you’re supposed to be writing down something you love about yourself each day this month and putting that nice thought in a mason jar for later…)

Gorge Weather Forecast

It is most definitely pouring rain outside my window. I know it is raining because I can hear splashy car and truck tires zipping along the pavement. If it were snowing, I could hear the tire chains. But I do not, and therefore I conclude that it is raining, not snowing. I also conclude this because winter left sometime around January 1st, and therefore the precipitation must be sprinklike. Thank you.

Expect a rainy morning switching to a showery afternoon. Temps will be in the low 50’s early and the low 60’s in the afternoon. Light wind, 99% chance of rainbows.

Tomorrow looks partly cloudy with a few sprinkles possible in the morning and increasing high clouds in the afternoon leading to a few sprinkles overnight. Temps will be in the mid 40’s early and the low 60’s in the afternoon. Light wind, 5% chance of rainbows.

Expect clear sky Tuesday morning with clouds in the afternoon. Temps will be in the low 40’s early and the low 60’s in the afternoon. Light wind early, moderate late, no rainbows.

Road and Mountain Biking

You may not have noticed that it’s pouring rain. Or you may be in Portland hoping that it’s not pouring rain in the Gorge. Let me assure you that it’s pouring rain here too, so our trails will be too muddy to ride and our roads will be rather wet. Please give the trails a day or two – we’ve had .5” of rain so far with more on the way. At least the other dirt, the dirt in your garden, is happy.
