Sunday. Easter. Stock up on Peeps!

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast

This morning started off clear above the ski slopes, but high clouds quickly moved in. That probably won’t stop the sun from filtering through for much of the day, but you can thicker clouds and flatter light late in the afternoon. Don’t forget that today is the last day of the season at Skibowl. Bring them four cans of food (or not, although you really should) and you ski for free. Rain moves in sometime between 5pm and 8pm, switching to snow overnight. The snow level will be 5500′ this morning, 7500′ when the precip arrives, and 3500′ after midnight. Looks like we’ll see .5” water value (WV) tonight, for 2-3” of new snow. Wind will be light NE this morning, S 10 for much of the day, and WSW 30-35 after midnight.

Monday starts off with light snow, sees some sunbreaks during the day, and sees more snow overnight. The snow level will be 3500′ in the morning, 5000′ in the evening, and 5500′ after midnight. We’ll see .1-.2” WV during the day, for an inch or two of new snow. Another .4” falls overnight during the warmer period, for 2-3” of dense new snow. Wind on Monday will be WSW 25 through the afternoon, dropping to SW 20 in the evening and overnight.

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast, continued

Tuesday sees on and off snow flurries, with clear sky likely in the afternoon and overnight. The snow level will be 5000′ pretty much all day. Models are disagreeing on how much precip we’ll see, so let’s say .1-.3” WV during the day. That gives us 1-2” of dense new snow. Wind will be SW 20 during the morning and WSW 25 in the afternoon and evening.

Wednesday starts off sunny but high clouds quickly move in. Rain starts up around 5pm and switches to snow overnight. The snow level will be 5000′ in the morning, 7000′ in the afternoon, and 4000′ overnight. As of right now, models are suggesting a narrow band of precip will set up over Mt. Hood, dropping 1”+ of WV, for 8-12” of new snow. We’ll have to see if that forecast holds over the next few days, but it’s certainly looking promising as of this morning…

Random Morning Thoughts

Seems like everywhere I go these days, people are talking about race and racism and inequality. That’s pretty cool to see, as the topic has been taboo in the past. One of the things that comes up in this conversation is the definition of racism. This article is an eye-opening read. It’s not just bias and bigotry; it’s institutional structures that serve to keep people of color (POC) or people of low socioeconomic status (among others) oppressed.

Some examples of this are red-lining (not giving mortage loans to POC in certain neighborhoods), sentencing biases, overdiagnosing of schizophrenia in Blacks, English-only policies, voter ID laws, and government policies that impact people of low SES more than wealthier folks (lack of subsidized childcare, public transit issues, health care/family planning access, etc).

By benefiting from these policies, people who are not impacted by them are participating in racism. That does not mean that one is bigoted or biased or a bad person (although we do have implicit biases that we need to monitor). It merely means that we have benefited from the oppression of others, as difficult as that may be to accept.

So, take a look at that article, if you feel so inclined. I found it eye-opening, for sure. And keep having those conversations, because talking about taboo things is one way the world can change for the better. Have an awesome day!

Road and Mountain Biking

Given that yesterday was a nice day, you can probably ride Post, Whoopdee, Hospital Hill (cows are out – NO DOGS), Columbia Hills, Sandy Ridge, or Kitchen Sink. The Gorge 400 still has large patches of snow, so pass on that one. Today’s road biking should be good: high overcast with light east wind.

Upcoming Events

Today is the last day of ski season at Skibowl. If you take them four cans of food (if you’re a good moral person) or no food (only if you can’t afford it), you can ski for free! There’s also community Yoga at Samadhi at 9am, ping pong at the Armory at 10am, meditation at Flow at 11am, pickup touch rugby at the Hood River Waterfront Park at 3pm, YogaFaith (Christ-centered) at Pure Yoga in The Dalles at 4pm, and restorative yoga at Pure Yoga in Hood River at 6pm.

Have an awesome day today!
