Mt. Hood Snow Forecast
Good morning skiers. Just when you thought ski season was over, Mother Nature has plans to bring in a bunch of fresh snow Thursday into Saturday. It won’t be the fluffiest snow, but as of this morning, it looks like the snow level will bounce around between 4000′ and 5000′. That’s low enough for accumulation at the resorts and maybe even at Teacup.
Before that happens, we’ve got spring skiing. Temps in the upper 20’s early Monday set us up for excellent corn snow. The free air freezing level rises to 7500′ in the afternoon and 10,000′ overnight. Wind will be variable to 15 during the day and E 20 after midnight. Temps max out around 40F. Tuesday will be have some thin high clouds. The freezing level will be between 9000′ and 10,000′. Temps max out in the upper 40s. Wind; E 20 in the morning, W 15 in the afternoon, and W 20 overnight. Clouds build on Wednesday. If there are enough of them early enough, the snow won’t refreeze overnight. As of right now, I’d guess we’ll have another round of spring skiing. Increasing clouds should help the snow last longer on Wednesday thank Monday/Tuesday. The free air freezing level will be 9000′ in the morning, 6500′ in the afternoon, and 6000′ after midnight. Wind: W 20 all day turning to SW 15 overnight.
Looking at the Thursday-Saturday time span, we (finally) have some incoming moisture. There’s quite a bit of range – models have total moisture over that period of 1-2”. With the exception of a brief period Thursday afternoon where the snow level rises to 5000′, it should be around 4000′ for the period. Heaviest snowfall will be Thursday night. We’ll dive more deeply into the details as we get closer. Sounds like a fun way to spend part of this week! Spring skiing to start. Winter to finish. Enjoy!

Gorge Wind Forecast
Hi friends! Fun was had at the Hatchery yesterday. Today looks like a rest day from wind sports. Tuesday brings easterlies early and westerlies later. On Wednesday, we’ll have another round of westerlies. We’ll talk a bit more about the extended forecast after we discuss the next three days.
High pressure settles in on Monday and gives us light east wind. The wind maxes out at 15mph at Iwash (Rooster), Stevenson, and Viento before fading to 10mph in the afternoon. River flow Sunday was 144-163kcfs, river temp is 51.44F, and high temp forecast is 67F. Tuesday starts with E 20-25 at Iwash and 20 at Stevenson with 15-20 at Viento. The wind drops to 15-20 at all those spots by mid morning and continues to drop into the afternoon. Models suggest the wind will turn westerly after 5pm. Call it 14-17 from Stevenson to Hood River. High temp: 72F. A weak system moving into BC on Wednesday combines with heat in the desert and westerly flow off the Pacific. This gives us, without going into too many details, 20-23 from Stevenson to Arlington for much of the day. Slightly stronger Dawn Patrol is a possibility between Viento and Swell or Mosier. High temp: 66F.
Extended: rain all day Thursday shuts down the wind. Good. We need the rain! Active weather sticks around and sets us up for moderate, rather gusty westerlies Friday and Saturday. The focus of the wind will likely be east of Hood River. Let’s leave it there for now. Have fun on the river!

Clear sky sticks around all day. Temps start in the mid 30s and rise to the upper 60’s. Light easterlies. No rainbows. Tuesday will be sunny. Temps start in the low 40s and rise to the low 70s. Light easterlies in the morning. Moderate westerlies in the afternoon. No rainbows. Wednesday will be partly high overcast then cloudy. Temps start in the mid 40s and rise to the mid 60s. Moderate westerlies. No rainbows. Thursday looks rainy!

On 4/26, Brave Endeavors is sponsoring a community bike swap on the lawn behind Ferment (right by the new Indian food cart).
Regular weekly events:. NK Studio’s by-donation Tuesday morning yoga class is back. Ferment’s Tuesday night 4-mile walk/run is at 6pm. There’s meditation with monks at 5:15pm (an hour) and 6:30pm (30 minutes plus a talk) at Yoga Samadhi in White Salmon. The Tri Club is done for the season. At 7:15am on Wednesdays, there’s a run from the White Salmon Bakery. At 7am on Friday morning, there’s a run from Pine Street Bakery. On Fridays at 2:30pm, there’s a free meditation and stretching class at Yoga Samadhi. On Saturday at 9am, there’s a by-donation outdoor group fitness on the 2rd floor deck about Ferment Brewing.
Cycling
Cows are out on Hospital Hill. NO DOGS. That means you, all of you, even your dog that’s [insert adjective]. No dogs. Do not risk access for everyone. No parking at the corral. Whoopdee flowers are in full bloom. Hospital Hill and Syncline have ticks, oaks, and flowers. Columbia Hills is full of flowers and open to your bike. HRATS have a fundraiser on 4/20. Raffle tickets are on sale now. Buy some and support your trails organization. Definitely got a Tack Alert going on out there right now – lots of good dirt. Some areas of Post are still muddy (shady, cool areas), so consider choosing a different spot to ride. You’ll have Post all summer long! Sisterwives and Kleeway in Post Canyon are currently closed for rebuilding. It’s trail-building season. Get on the HRATS mailing list if you’d like to help out. If you’re parking at Post Canyon, you will need a parking pass. Those can be purchased at many local shops or online.
