Mt. Hood Snow Forecast
If you’ve been liking the spring skiing, make plans to get to Mt. Hood in the next two days. After that, temps cool off. Snow returns for next weekend. It’ll be clear with light wind Sunday night, and that should allow the snow to snap (freeze) despite the 10,000′ freezing level. Monday will be sunny all day. The free air freezing level will be 10,000′, and the wind will be variable to 5mph during the day and SW 5-10 overnight. Temps max out around 50F. Just FYI, Meadows opened Superbowl on Sunday. No word if it’ll be open Monday, but if you’re going up, take your skins just in case!
Tuesday will be sunny all day. The freezing level will be 10,000′ all day and 8000′ overnight. Wind will be SW 5-10 in the morning, 10-20 in the afternoon, and 15-25 overnight. Temps max out around 50 again. Wednesday starts sunny and adds some clouds to 6500′ in the afternoon. The sky clears again overnight. A little bit of mixed precip or even freezing drizzle is possible (but not super likely) for a brief period in the afternoon. Wind will be SW 15-25 in the morning, W 30 in the afternoon, and WSW 15-25 overnight.
Clear sky on Thursday accompanies a brief warmup: the freezing level will be 4000′ early, 8500′ in the afternoon, and back down to 5500′ overnight. No precip. Temps max out near 40. Wind: WSW 15-25 early, SW 10-15 in the afternoon, and S 10-15 overnight. Extended: A partly cloudy day on Friday gives way to wet snow overnight. Snow continues through the weekend. So much for spring. Winter will return before it’s done for the year.

Gorge Wind Forecast
Hi friends! Models continue to bounce around for wind speeds on Tuesday and Wednesday, but generally speaking, they’ve been trending downwards. Boo hiss to that. Monday starts with E 15 at Stevenson and E 20 at Iwash (Rooster). The wind drops to 10 at Iwash and holds at Stevenson through early afternoon. After that: light westerlies or calm wind at Iwash and E 10 at Stevenson. River flow Sunday was 116-125kcfs, river temp is 44.78F, and high temp forecast is 75F.
Here’s the current forecast for Tuesday, subject to change. The day starts calm. Afternoon westerlies pick up to gusty 13-16 from Stevenson to The Dalles. High temp: 72F. Wednesday starts with gusty 14-17 from Stevenson to Arlington with a deep marine layer at least to Mosier. Afternoon wind holds at 14-17 west of Lyle and picks up to gusty 22-26 from Rowena to Boardman. High temp: 59F. With a series of offshore low pressure systems in our future, there’s not much hope for strong, steady westerlies (or easterlies) in the next week or so. But hey, snow will be returning to the mountain!

Regular weekly events:. NK Studio’s by-donation Tuesday morning yoga class is back. Ferment’s Tuesday night 4-mile walk/run is at 6pm. There’s meditation with monks at 5:15pm (an hour) and 6:30pm (30 minutes plus a talk) at Yoga Samadhi in White Salmon. The Tri Club is done for the season. At 7:15am on Wednesdays, there’s a run from the White Salmon Bakery. At 7am on Friday morning, there’s a run from Pine Street Bakery. On Fridays at 2:30pm, there’s a free meditation and stretching class at Yoga Samadhi. On Saturday at 9am, there’s a by-donation outdoor group fitness on the 2rd floor deck about Ferment Brewing.
Cycling
We have reports of brown pow in Post Canyon to 8-Track. Whoopdee, Hospital, and Synclinea re also good for riding right now per Strava (the app, not my cat). Sisterwives and Kleeway in Post Canyon are currently closed for rebuilding. Regarding the trails in general: don’t ride in the mud. You’ll damage the trails. Don’t ride if it was below freezing the previous night and is above freezing (or sunny) when you go to ride; freeze-thaw trails are susceptible to permanent damage. Ride gravel. Ride your trainer. Build trails. There are trail builders seeking extra hands on seven additional miles of trail on Whoopdee. Contact HRATS for more information. If you’re parking at Post Canyon, you will need a parking pass. Those can be purchased at many local shops or online.
