Mt. Hood Forecast

It’s a cloudy start to Friday on Mt. Hood, and the clouds will stick around all day. Next chance of snow is Sunday, all day, followed by another round of snow on Wednesday. Rest of the time: varying amounts of cloudiness and low snow levels with sub-freezing temps on the hill.

Looking at Friday, we have mostly dry weather with clouds all day. The freezing level will be about 1500′ all day. No precip other than a few scattered snowflakes. Wind: E 15 early, NE 10 in the afternoon, and NNE 10 overnight.

Clear sky sticks around all day on Saturday, and clouds move in overnight. The freezing level will be 0-500′ early, 2500′ in the afternoon, and 1000′ overnight. Wind: NNE 10 in the morning, W 15 in the afternoon and overnight.

Sunday looks snowy starting around 4am and continuing for almost 24 hours. The snow level will be 1000′ in the morning, 2000′ in the afternoon, and 1500′ overnight. About 0.3” water equivalent is forecast during the day, for 3-4” of powder. Another 0.4” is forecast overnight, for 4-5” additional snowfall. That should be enough for refreshed groom on Monday. Wind: W 15 all day and evening turns to NW 10 overnight.

The forecast for Monday and Tuesday is for varying amounts of clouds with no precipitation. The next round of snowfall is forecast for Wednesday. Enjoy!

Note on wind speeds. Different wind directions are experienced in different ways on Mt. Hood. For example, west wind at 50mph will hit the slopes and exposed ridges at W 50. SW 50 may hit the ridges at SW 50, but will likely only be SW 20 below tree line. Hence the ranges for wind. Depends where you are on the mountain. Hopefully that helps clarify.
