Mt. Hood Snow Forecast
Hey snow shredders! For whatever reason, models have been backing off on snow amounts for the next few days, but they’re holding on to precip for the second half of next week. The big question at this point is what the temps will be like on Wednesday. As of right now, they look right on the edge for snow/rain. Let’s dive in and talk about it, shall we!
Models call for some snow Saturday night into Sunday morning, but it’s tricky to figure out how much; this is all instability driven. Let’s call it 1-4” with the snow level falling from 4500′ to 3500′. Sunday starts with light snow. Clear sky in the afternoon gives way to some lower-elevation (below 5000′) precipitation, but just a trace of it. The snow level will be 3500′ Sunday morning, 4000′ in the afternoon, and 2500′ after midnight. Wind: NW 20-30 in the morning, NW 20-25 in the afternoon, and W 25 overnight.
Monday brings flurries during the day and light, steady snow overnight. The snow level will be 2500′ during the day, 3000′ in the afternoon, and 2000′ after midnight. Just a trace of snow falls during the day. Overnight, about 0.2” water equivalent (WE) is forecast for 2-3” new. Wind: W 25 early, W 20 midday, WNW 15-20 in the afternoon, and W 25 after midnight.
Clear sky up high combines with light snowfall (or freezing rain – this setup can get weird) on Tuesday. Just a trace is forecast in the morning. The sun pops out in the afternoon, and clouds return overnight. The snow level will be 2000′ in the morning, 3500′ in the afternoon, and 5000′ overnight. Wind: W 25 in the morning, WSW 10-15 in the afternoon, and SW 20-30 overnight.
Heavier precip is forecast on Wednesday. Temps at 850mb (5000′ or so) are forecast to be between 0C and +2C – that’s right on the edge for snow or snain. Up high: fresh snow, probably at least half a foot. Several more inches of snow are in the cards for Thursday. Let’s leave it there for now. Happy turns!

Gorge Wind Forecast
Moderate westerlies are in the forecast for the next few days. Sadly, models have backed way off on the original forecast for Sunday. With rain in the forecast for the desert on Sunday, you’ll be best served to stay west of The Dalles. The days starts with 15-18 from Stevenson to Avery with 7-10 to the east. Afternoon wind drops to 12-15 from Stevenson to Doug’s with less than 5-10mph out east (and rain out there too). River flow Saturday was 140-173kcfs, river temp is 46.04F, and high temp forecast is 54F.
Monday starts with 11-14 all the way from Stevenson to Arlington. Midday wind rises to 15-18 from The Dalles to Rufus and holds to the west. Afternoon: 22-25 from Rowena to Arlington. High temp: 52F. Tuesday starts with 13-16 from Stevenson to Arlington. Afternoon: 11-14 west of The Dalles and 19-22 from Avery to Arlington. High temp: 55F. More active weather arrives starting Wednesday thanks to a series of offshore low pressure systems. That does not bode well for wind of any sort. So ya better get out there on the next three days of moderate westerlies!

Skibowl’s Springfest continues on Sunday, March 24th. There’s a seed swap at Rockford Grange in Hood River on Sunday, March 24th from 1pm to 4pm. The tentative opening date for the Amayah’s cart in Hood River is April 1st. The White Salmon – Bingen community-wide yard sale is April 19th and 20th. On April 16th at 6pm, Master Gardener Denis Carlson gives a talk at the Hood River Library on controlling rodents in your garden.
Regular weekly events:. NK Studio’s by-donation Tuesday morning yoga class is back. Ferment’s Tuesday night 4-mile walk/run is at 6pm. There’s meditation with monks at 5:15pm (an hour) and 6:30pm (30 minutes plus a talk) at Yoga Samadhi in White Salmon. The Tri Club is done for the season. At 7:15am on Wednesdays, there’s a run from the White Salmon Bakery. At 7am on Friday morning, there’s a run from Pine Street Bakery. On Fridays at 2:30pm, there’s a free meditation and stretching class at Yoga Samadhi. On Saturday at 9am, there’s a by-donation outdoor group fitness on the 2rd floor deck about Ferment Brewing.
Cycling
We have reports of brown pow in Post Canyon to 8-Track. Whoopdee, Hospital, and Syncline are also good for riding right now per Strava (the app, not my cat). Sisterwives and Kleeway in Post Canyon are currently closed for rebuilding. Regarding the trails in general: don’t ride in the mud. You’ll damage the trails. Don’t ride if it was below freezing the previous night and is above freezing (or sunny) when you go to ride; freeze-thaw trails are susceptible to permanent damage. Ride gravel. Ride your trainer. Build trails. There are trail builders seeking extra hands on seven additional miles of trail on Whoopdee. Contact HRATS for more information. If you’re parking at Post Canyon, you will need a parking pass. Those can be purchased at many local shops or online.

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast
Hey snow shredders! The snow forecast for the weekend has backed off, but we’re still expecting a fair bit of snow over the course of next week. Why? Lots of weather systems headed this way with temps hovering around “just cold enough” or a bit colder than that.
Friday night is going to drop some rain on the slopes with some snow above 5500′ or so. Saturday starts clear prior to sunrise and quickly turns cloudy with scattered flurries. Thanks to afternoon instability, we could see heavier snow showers and/or graupel. Hard to say how much. Probably not more than an inch, but we could get lucky. The snow level will be 3500′ Saturday morning and will rise to 4000′ in the afternoon. It holds overnight. Wind: SW 15-25 in the morning, S 5-15 in the afternoon, and NW 20-30 overnight.
Partly cloudy sky on Sunday morning gives way to a little snow in the afternoon and clear sky overnight. The snow level will be 4000′ all day and will fall to 2500′ after midnight with clear sky above 4000′ or so. A trace of snow is forecast for the 24 hour period. Wind: NW 20-30 in the morning, WNW 20-30 in the afternoon, and W 20 after midnight.
Thanks to a period of clear sky overnight, the snow will snap for Monday morning. Expect it hard and fast. Fortunately, snow starts up pretty quickly and continues all day and most of the night. The snow level will be 2500′ or so for the 24 hour period. About 0.3” water equivalent (WE) is forecast during the day for about 3” of new. Overnight, 0.3” WE is forecast. Call that 3-5” new with orographic assistance from west wind. Wind: W 20 in the morning, WSW 20-25 midday, and W 25 overnight. Light snow is forecast on Tuesday. Stronger systems are forecast for the second half of next week. Get on it!

Gorge Wind Forecast
Hi friends. We’re still on track for a bit o’ wind this weekend. It’s probably not going to be as strong as the forecast called for several days ago, but it’s also not going to be nothing! Saturday starts calm. The wind slowly builds. After 2pm, we have a shot at gusty 15-18 from Stevenson to Biggs. We also have a shot at instability-driven shower. Surface-based instability like this isn’t great for wind, so… yeah… River flow Friday was 120-172kcfs, river temp is 45.68F, and high temp forecast is 59F.
Sunday starts with 14-17 from Viento to Threemile with drizzle in Stevenson. By late morning, we’ll have 16-19 from Viento to Avery. Afternoon… might hold there, might bump up to 20-23 from Viento to Avery. High temp: 55F with clouds in the morning and mostly clear sky in the afternoon. Monday starts with W 7-10 from Stevenson to Arlington. Around noon, thanks to offshore high pressure, the wind climbs to 14-17 from Stevenson to Biggs. High temp: 52F with drizzle in the morning and partly cloudy sky in the afternoon.
