Mt. Hood Snow Forecast
Wet snow has been piling up on the slopes above 4000′ or so all day Wednesday. We’ll add a bit more snow Wednesday night into Thursday, and then we’ll transition to dry weather and sunshine. Models bring back the cold next Wednesday, but they’re all over the map with how much snow the next round of cool weather will bring. So… enjoy the snow we’re getting, and enjoy the sun this weekend!
For Wednesday night, the snow level falls from 4000′ to 2500′ or so with a couple inches of snow. Wind will be SW 25-35. Thursday starts snowy and stays that way through the afternoon. Clear sky returns in the evening, then a few flurries fall after midnight. The snow level will be 2500′ early, 3500′ in the afternoon, and 2500′ after midnight. About 0.3” water equivalent (WE) is forecast during the day for about 3” new snow. Just a trace falls overnight. Expect the snow to be of the middling-dense variety. Wind: SW 25-35 all day dropping to SW 10-15 after midnight.
Friday starts cloudy with lingering light snow. Expect packed powder conditions and excellent groom. Clear sky arrives by mid-morning. The snow level will be 2000′ in the morning and 4000′ from the afternoon on through the night. Wind: SW 5-15 in the morning, ENE 10 in the afternoon, and E 20 overnight. Clear sky is forecast Saturday with decreasing wind. The freezing level maxes out at 5000′. Sunday will also be sunny. The freezing level rises from 5000′ early to 6000′ in the afternoon and 10,000′ overnight. Light wind. Both weekend days should see hardpack snow conditions. Carveable and fast. That’s good for the forecast for now. Make the most of the fresh snow!

Gorge Wind Forecast
Hi friends! Not much happens in the next few days, but ensembles like the idea of lots of river playtime next week! For Thursday, we start with light/variable wind, turns to E 15 just at Stevenson, and spin around to west late afternoon. You’ll find W 11-14 west of Hood River and east of Avery with 5-10 in the midday. River flow Wednesday was 121-173kcfs, river temp is 47.12F, and high temp forecast is 54F. With rain. All day.
Friday starts with E 15 at Stevenson and Iwash (Rooster). The wind drops to 10-15 in the afternoon. Elsewhere: light or calm. High temp: 57F with clouds in the morning and mostly clear sky later. Saturday starts with west wind at 5-10 or less and turns to E 10-15 at Stevenson and Iwash as the west side warms. High temp: 62F and mostly clear. Sunday forecast is currently west wind at less than 10mph. Monday: low 20’s at the Hatch. Tuesday: light. Wednesday: 29-33 east of The Dalles. The timing of all this could shift some, but models are consistently pointing to Wednesday afternoon out east. In between now and then, you’ll have several days of warm, sunny weather to practice flatwater paddle ups and dockstarting. Have fun!

Friday will be drizzly prior to sunrise then mostly clear. Temps start in the upper 30s and rise to the upper 50s. Light easterlies. 18% chance of rainbows. Saturday will be clear then partly high cloudy. Temps start in the mid 30s and rise to the low 60s. Light westerlies early. Light easterlies later. No rainbows. Regular weekly events:. NK Studio’s by-donation Tuesday morning yoga class is back. Ferment’s Tuesday night 4-mile walk/run is at 6pm. There’s meditation with monks at 5:15pm (an hour) and 6:30pm (30 minutes plus a talk) at Yoga Samadhi in White Salmon. The Tri Club is done for the season. At 7:15am on Wednesdays, there’s a run from the White Salmon Bakery. At 7am on Friday morning, there’s a run from Pine Street Bakery. On Fridays at 2:30pm, there’s a free meditation and stretching class at Yoga Samadhi. On Saturday at 9am, there’s a by-donation outdoor group fitness on the 2rd floor deck about Ferment Brewing.
Cycling
It’s wet out there right now. Give it a couple days to dry out. And Thursday doesn’t count because it’ll be raining! Sisterwives and Kleeway in Post Canyon are currently closed for rebuilding. Regarding the trails in general: don’t ride in the mud. You’ll damage the trails. Don’t ride if it was below freezing the previous night and is above freezing (or sunny) when you go to ride; freeze-thaw trails are susceptible to permanent damage. Ride gravel. Ride your trainer. Build trails. There are trail builders seeking extra hands on seven additional miles of trail on Whoopdee. Contact HRATS for more information. If you’re parking at Post Canyon, you will need a parking pass. Those can be purchased at many local shops or online.

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast
Hey shredders! A couple more days of light to moderate snowfall are in the cards. After that: several days of warmer, sunny weather for the slopes. It’s hard to say if we’ll have enough sun to make the switch to corn snow before the weather turns wintry again. And yes, the models do make things cold again starting the middle of next week.
For Tuesday night, we’ll have a trace of snow after midnight with the snow level at 3000′ before midnight and 4500′ after. Wind: SW 10-20. Wednesday looks snowy. Temps will rise enough for snain (very wet snow) midday, but we’re going to see snow accumulation for sure. The snow level will be 4500′ early, 5500′ a bit after sunrise, 4000′ in the afternoon, and as low as 2500′ after midnight. About 0.6” to 0.8” water equivalent (WE) is forecast during the day for 5-7” dense snow at 5000′. Another 0.1” WE is forecast overnight for an inch of less-wet snow. Wind: SW 15-30 early, SW 30-45 midday, and SW 20-30 overnight.
Light snow continues on Thursday after a partly cloudy start. The snow level will be 2500′ in the morning, 3000′ in the afternoon, and 2500′ after midnight. about 0.2” WE is forecast for the day. That’s 2” of medium density snow. Repeat that overnight. Wind: SW 20-30 all day and all night. Friday starts with a few lingering flurries and quickly turns clear. The freezing level starts around 2500′ and rises to 4000′. the wind drops from SW 10-20 in the morning to light/variable in the afternoon and swings to E 10 overnight. Expect sunshine for the weekend. The freezing level looks to be around 4500′ on Saturday and 6000′ on Sunday. The first day or two of next week looks sunny and warm. After that? Cooler, but it’s unclear how much precip we’ll have. Get up there and ride!

Gorge Wind Forecast
A series of offshore low pressures systems sends rain and back-and-forth wind through the Gorge for the next few days. Light wind and warmer weather is likely for the weekend. Keep an eye on the Monday through Thursday stretch next week. The majority of the ensemble members have at least one big day. We’ll talk more about that in a bit.
Wednesday starts with E 20-25 at Iwash (Rooster) and Stevenson. That lasts a few hours, and then the wind turns calm. After 2pm, we’ll have W 7-10 from Stevenson to The Dalles with gusty 14-17 from Avery to Arlington. River flow Tuesday was 101-156kcfs, river temp is 46.94F, and high temp forecast is 53F. Thursday will be rainy, then dry for a few hours, then rainy all the way to Arlington. There won’t be much wind: calm early, E 10-15 in the usual spots midday, and calm west of The Dalles in the afternoon. East of The Dalles, you’ll find very gusty SW wind at 15-25mph with rain. High temp: 53F. Friday starts with E 10-15 at Stevenson and Iwash and turns calm and sunny. High temp: 59F.
Models call for less than 10mph both weekend days. Offshore high pressure sets up on Monday, the heat low shifts inland, and the wind turns onshore. Models are eyeing Tuesday or Wednesday (probably Wednesday) for a massive cold front and associated very strong west wind. We’ll keep a close eye on this. Yeah, it’s a long ways out, but ensembles are really liking this. My fingers are crossed!
