Did you miss me? I missed you guys… kinda… I was too busy skiing powder at Crystal to really think about it! Wow… I love that place. It’s not just the skiing. The regulars up there are so nice!

Anyway… I hope you enjoyed the schiessetonne of new snow mentioned in the last forecast I wrote. There’s nothing like that in the short-term Mt. Hood forecast. Today looks clear, with high clouds at points during the day. The nominal freezing level will be at 500′ early, 1500′ by mid-afternoon, and 2000′ rising to 5500′ overnight. I say nominal, because the strong March sun is probably going to make the freezing level quite a bit higher than models predict. Wind will be light today, at 10-15 all day. No precip.

We may see a few showers tomorrow, but most likely we’ll start off the day with clear skies. High clouds move in midday. The freezing level will be 5500′ early, rising to 6000′ by 2pm. Wind will be SE 20-30, swinging to the S at 15-20 mid-afternoon. Total precip will be less than .1” for the 4am Saturday to 4am Sunday time period. Any precip that falls will be light rain, but there won’t be much, and it won’t happen until late in the day, if at all.

Sunday looks clear with the freezing level at 6000′, rising to 7000′. Wind will be SE 30-40 early, going to S 20-30, then E 10-15 by 11am.

A weather system swings through early Monday morning. The freezing level will be at 6000′ early, dropping to 2000′ at 8am and 1000′ at 11am, rising to 2000′ in the afternoon. Wind will be W 20-30 all morning, swinging to SW 20-30 in the afternoon. We’ll bet .1-.3” water value between 4am and 2pm, for a trace of rain followed by 1-2” of new snow.

Tue/Wed bring snow showers. If the extended models bear fruit, the next strong system swings through Thur/Fri.

If you’re hoping to windsurf or kite, we’ll have east wind at 20-24 today, 25-29 on Saturday, no wind on Sunday, and 28-32 in the eastern Gorge on Monday with 17-20 in the western Gorge.

In events, Saturday is the Upper Wind River Whitewater Festival. It’s a big weekend at Skibowl, with the Goggle Tan Rail Jam, the Snow Beach Festival and the pond skim. It’s also my condo association’s annual meeting. Yes, I know you’re stoked about that one!

Good morning,

Warning: I am taking a couple of days off, as I am going out of town. My apologies. The skiing will be great this week. Go get some!

Despite a little mishap with some mixed precipitation at low elevations this morning, today’s going to be a nice day on Mt. Hood, assuming dumping snow and blustery wind is your idea of nice. It’s my idea of nice. The snow level, currently around 5500′, will drop to 3000′ by 8am, 1500′ by 11am and 1000′ by 5pm. We’ll see 1-1.2” water value (WV) from 4am-4pm, for 8-12” of new, followed by another 1.1” WV by Wednesday 4am for another 10-14” of new. Wind today will be SW 45-55 all day long, dropping overnight.

Wednesday starts off with a schiessetonne of new snow on the ground and more falling from the sky. The snow level will be at 500′ early, rising to 1000′ by 2pm and 3000′ by 5pm. We’ll get .8-1.0” WV during the day, for 9-12” of new snow. We’ll see .6-.7” WV between 4pm Wednesday and 4am Thursday, for another 7-9” of new snow, Wind on Wednesday will be SW 10-15 early, rising to SW 25-30 in the afternoon.

Thursday looks the same as Wednesday in the morning, with dumping snow and the snow level around 500′, followed by clearing midday and high clouds moving in during the evening. We’ll just see a couple inches of snow in the morning before skies clear. Wind will be WNW 25-30 early, swinging to SW 15-20 by 11am and SSW 10-15 by 5pm.

Friday brings partly cloudy skies with a few flurries, The snow level will be less than 1000′ early, rising to 2000′ by 2pm and 3500′ by 5pm. Wind will be S 15-20 early, swinging to SE 15-20 by 2pm and ESE 20-30 by 5pm.

At this point, Saturday looks partly cloudy and Sunday looks snowy.

My apologies, but you’re probably not going to get a forecast for the next couple of days. I am going to Crystal to ski Employee Housing. =)
