Mountain Weather Forecast:
Today starts off with partly cloudy skies on Mt. Hood, but snow flurries move in before daylight, with light flurries until 10am, becoming moderate snow between 10am and 10pm. Total water value today will be .5-.75” for 5-8” of light and fluffy new snow. The snow level today will be less than 1000’. Winds today start at WSW 10-15, building to 15-20 by 4pm and continuing overnight.
Tomorrow brings alternating orographic snow flurries and partly cloudy skies. Total accumulation tomorrow will be less than .25” water value for 1-3” of new snow. Winds tomorrow start off WSW 15-20, dropping to 10-15 midday, going to SW 10 overnight.
Models are differing in their opinions of Saturday’s weather, but the overall consensus is for dry, partly cloudy to sunny weather with light wind. We may see some high clouds as an upper level low swings by the coast, but the chance of precipitation is minimal.
It looks like the snow will start again during the day on Sunday, with significant accumulation between midday Sunday and Monday morning. Winds on Sunday look light. There is another model suggesting the snow will hold off until Sunday night, so we may have to wait a day or two for a better consensus.
Don’t forget that ‘Wildwater, A Love Story’ plays at Columbia Center for the Arts tonight at 7pm.

If you like playing in the snow, you’ve been waiting for this week.

Mountain Weather Forecast:

The snow level will hover around 2000’ today with increasing wind. We’ll see moderate to heavy snow at all the resorts, including little Skibowl and little Cooper, through 1p, becoming light to moderate and blizzardy after that. Total accumulation at Meadows today will be .75”-1.25” of water value, for 8-12” of new snow. Most of that will fall during the day today, for endless refills on the powder tracks. We’ll see rapidly increasing wind today, rising from 10-15 at 5am to SW 45-55 by 11am, falling to SW 30-35 by 4pm and slowly decreasing through Wednesday morning.

Snow flurries continue tomorrow during the day, becoming moderate to heavy snowfall around 4pm. Total accumulation will be .25-.5” water value for 3-5” of new, with most of the accumulation coming between 4pm Wednesday and 1am Thursday. The snow level tomorrow will hover between 1500 and 2000’. Winds start at SW 15-20, building to SW 25-30 midday and switching to W 30-40 by 4pm, going to a possibly problematic NW 30 by 7pm.

Temperature drop again on Thursday as the snow level falls to 1000’ or less. We’ll see light flurries all day, with moderate snowfall Thursday night into Friday. Total accumulation will be around .25” water value for 2-4” of dry new snow, mostly coming Thursday night.

Models disagree on the amount of moisture coming in Friday. It ranges between .25” and .75” at this time. Suffice it to say the snow will continue, will the snow level falling to 500’ or less. Winds will be less than 30mph Friday.

The only thing the models agree on for the weekend is that it will stay cold. Don’t forget that there’s a fundraiser for the Meadows Avy Dog team at Everybody’s Brewing on Sunday at 6pm (to accommodate the early bedtimes of MHM personnel?). There will be sick swag and puppies to pet!

Mountain Biking Report:

Wet. Here’s a better idea. There’s a fundraiser for Disco’s indoor pumptrack at the Skylight Theatre on Thursday night. They’re showing a double feature of the visual mountain biking poem LifeCycles and the street BMX flick Stay Fit. There are two showings: 5pm and 9pm. $20 gets you in the door and gets you raffle tickets for some super-sick prizes including a Cannondale 29’er frame and a Norco Dirt Jumper.

Gorge Wind Forecast:

Wet and cold. Best chance for westerlies is today and tomorrow in the afternoon out in the desert, but why would you skip powder riding for not-very-good river riding?
