Mountain Weather Forecast

Still snowing… The snow level today will be at 1000’ early (yes, it’s snowing in Parkdale), rising to 2000’ or so in the afternoon, but feeling like it’s higher from solar radiation. We’ll see another 2-3” of snow tonight. Winds will be WNW 25-35 early, dropping to W 20-25 by 11am, and falling to W 15-20 this afternoon. We’ll get another 2” or so overnight tonight.

Tomorrow looks cold, with the snow level at 1000’, rising to 3000’ in the afternoon, with snow flurries in the morning with sunbreaks in the afternoon. Winds will be NW 20-30 tomorrow.

Saturday looks cold and clear, with the free air freezing level at 1000’ early, rising to 4000’ in the afternoon.Winds will be WNW 20-30 early, dropping to 15-25 by 11am and 10-15 by 4pm.

Sunday looks warm and sunny with light east wind.

Gorge Wind Forecast
Today looks rather gusty, with light wind in the morning and 17-20 this afternoon east of Hood River. Tomorrow looks pretty good, with 17-21 early from Hood River to Mosier, picking up to 24-28 from Hood River to Maryhill in the afternoon. At this point, Saturday looks wind, at least in the morning before high pressure builds in, with 21-23 near Hood River in the morning.

Other stuff
It looks like the Post and Pint will be canceled tonight, but I’m sure Mitchell would love to commiserate with you over a beer starting at 5pm at the shop. Coming up Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the Skylight Theater in Hood River shows the Banff Mountain Film Festival. If for some reason that doesn’t work for you the BMFF shows in Portland tonight.

Mountain Weather Forecast

Yesterday was pretty silly for April on Mt. Hood, with some beautiful powder turns. Today is partly cloudy, and we’ll see flurries today with no significant accumulation during the day. The wind today will be SW 15-20, going to NW 25-30+ overnight. High clouds move in midday, and the next front hits sometime between 5pm and 8pm. The snow level today rises to 3000’, but drops to 1500’ tonight (yes, really), with .5-.7” water value for 6-8” of new snow by 5am.

If yesterday was silly for April, tomorrow will be ridiculous. Tomorrow morning starts off cold and windy. The snow level will be 1000’-1500’, with WNW wind at 20-25+ early, dropping to SW 10-15 by 11am and picking back up to WNW 20-25 by 4pm as high pressure starts building over the NW. We’ll see another .25-.5” wv during the day, for another 4-6” of new snow.

Friday looks cold, with continued orographic snow flurries and NW wind in the 15-20 range. Snow accumulation will be 1-2” during the day.

High pressure builds in Saturday, for a clear day, and Sunday looks quite warm and sunny, with temperatures above seasonal norms. Monday looks snowy.

Gorge Wind Forecast
The windsurfing and kiting forecast doesn’t look great the next couple of days. This morning will be light, with westerlies picking up to 17-19 from Hood River to Rowena this afternoon. Tomorrow morning looks light, with gusty westerlies blowing 23-26 east of The Dalles after noon. Thursday is starting to look like a solid west wind day.

Other stuff
On the events calendar, tonight is sailboat racing night out of the Hood River Marina. If the trails dry out, tomorrow night is the Post and Pint out of Dirty Fingers, but I’m thinking there’s a pretty good chance it will be cancelled this week. If you want to talk about mountain biking, you’re always welcome to stop by the shop at 5pm.
