I am sure everyone has heard this by now, but I’ll repeat it since I forgot yesterday: The Kreps are putting the cows out on their land. No parking at the Spring Street Corral through 4/27 or so. No dogs on Hospital Hill until the cows are gone. Even you, yes you. You cannot bring your dog to Hospital Hill until the cows are gone, sometime around July 4th. The Kreps are very kind to let us ride on their land. Be kind to them and respect their wishes. If you see someone out there with a dog, let them know the rules. Thank you. And thank the Kreps if you see them. And thank Kay and Melissa and Clint and anyone else who cleared trails.

In snow news, Mt. Hood sees the freezing level at 4500’ this morning, dropping to 3000’ midday and rising to 4000’ this afternoon. Wind will be SW 15-20, rising to 25-30 and then backing off to 10-15 by afternoon. We’ll see a mix of partly cloudy skies and flurries today with no significant snow accumulation (sorry NOAA, but I don’t agree with your 2-4”) as the weather stays mostly to the west. There is a slight chance of thunderstorms late in the afternoon.

Friday starts off partly cloudy, becoming clear midday with clouds moving in again late. The freezing level will be 4000’ in the morning, 3000’ midday and 5000’ in the afternoon. Wind will be light all day: S 10 early, SE 5-10 midday and light and variable in the afternoon. No significant precip.

Saturday starts off clear with high clouds midday and a chance of flurries in the afternoon. The freezing level will be 4000’ early, dropping to 2000’ in the afternoon as a front passes. Wind will be NW 20 early, rising to 20-25 midday and 25-30 early afternoon. No accumulation of snow.

Sunday looks clear, with periods of high clouds caused by an upper level low off the coast. The freezing level will be 3500’ early, rising to 5000’ in the afternoon with NW wind at 10-15 all day.

The next chance for precip on Mt. Hood comes Monday with a round of mixed precipitation.

In the wind forecast, we’ll see light easterlies today as an upper low sits off the coast. Tomorrow looks light. On Saturday, high pressure over the Pacific combines with some other nice weather features for 17-20 early in the central and near east Gorge with 23-26 midday from Hood River to Maryhill. In the afternoon, the wind becomes gusty as it becomes more northerly. Sunday looks light, as yet another low pressures system parks off the coast.

In events, the HRATS have a meeting at 10 Speed at 6pm tonight. Dirty Fingers Bikes hosts an Ellsworth demo day at Syncline 10-4 on Saturday. Sunday is Hood River Appreciation Day at Meadows. Timberline has cheap tickets and fun stuff going on all week for their 75th anniversary.

Good morning,

First off, I almost forgot to mention: If you like to ride bikes/etc at Hospital Hill, please do not park at the Corral on Spring Street for the next two weeks. The Kreps are moving the cattle on to the land, and can’t do it if you block access to their corral. Also, NO DOGS on Kreps land until the cattle are gone. Yes, that means you and your puppy. NO DOGS. We ride those trails at the generosity of the landowners, and must abide by their requests if we want to retain access. Please, no dogs. Really. All of you. Thank you!

Temps are borderline on Mt. Hood this morning, with the freezing level somewhere around 6000-6500’. Luckily, the radar echoes are mostly staying to the west, but we’ll still probably see a few raindrops today, with a few snowflakes up high. Models show .2” precip this morning (I think we’ll see less) and .1” tonight, for a little new snow up high and a little snow mixed with rain down low (although, the temp is 32 at 7000’ right now, so rain is more likely). Anyway, wind today will be NW 10-20, going to W 15-20 in the evening. Honestly, at this point, a trace of rain on the snow is better than snow on snow, as it’ll keep the corn snow corn and not spring sticky snow.

Tomorrow looks cloudy with a few flurries in the morning and midday with a chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon and clearing in the evening. The freezing level will be 4000’ pretty much all day, with SW wind at 15-20 early, 20-25 midday and 10-15 in the evening. No snow accumulation.

Friday looks partly cloudy on Mt. Hood, with a chance of flurries in the morning and the freezing level at 4000’ early, rising to 5500’ in the afternoon. Wind will be E 10-15 early, swinging to NW 10-15 in the afternoon as high pressure starts to build off the coast. No snow accumulation.

Saturday sees high pressure building off the coast, which will give us solid NW wind on Mt. Hood along with a chance for a few orographic flurries mixed with sunbreaks. The freezing level will be around 1500’ (possibly lower in the morning) with NW wind at 30-35 all day, finally fading overnight as the coastal high pressure weakens. No significant snow accumulation.

For the Gorge wind forecast, we’ll have westerlies at 15-18 near Hood River today with 23-26 out in the desert this afternoon. Tomorrow brings gusty 15-18, as an upper level low sits off the coast. Friday looks light, with westerlies starting to build late in the day. Saturday looks like a weak version of classic Gorge, so call it 23-26 east of the cloud line with gusty 15-18 under the clouds. Strongest and steadiest wind will probably be at Doug’s/Maryhill on Saturday. The Columbia is currently at 314,000cfs, meaning Rufus/Maryhill/The Wall are probably going to be washed out. In events, Saturday is a free Ellsworth Bikes demo at Syncline from 10-4. I think it’s just an excuse for Craig and Mitchell from Dirty Fingers to spend the day riding rather than fixing your bikes! Joking aside, those Ellsworth Bikes are really, really fun, so make a point to head out there and try one for free. Sunday is Hood River Appreciation Day at Meadows.
