at 215 Cascade Street. Sure, it’s fun to use the Gorge as your gym, exercising your body every day, but how long has it been since you attended a cultural event? A play? A show? An indie film?
Well, Columbia Center for the Arts has you covered. Coming up on July 19th, Oregon author Jon Bell will be at CCA discussing his book ‘On Mount Hood: A biography of Oregon’s Perilous Peak.’ Jon was on OPB a couple of weeks ago, and he’s pretty engaging, so this should be a great talk. On July 20th, ‘Bicycle Dreams’ plays on the big screen at CCA… it’s a documentary about the Race Across America. Definitely a must see, and a bargain at $5. Finally, on the 27th, there’s another great film, ‘Exit Through the Gift Shop’. And those are only the highlighted events – you can check the website for more. And, if you want to support art in the Gorge, become a supporting member. On the email list, We’re giving away twopairs of tickets to Jesus Christ Superstar, playing on July 8, 9, 10, 14, 15, 16. Now, your forecast:

So this morning the models are showing zero wind for the Gorge today, but the gradient is at .06 from Portland to The Dalles. So, I’ll ignore the models and say we’ll see 12-15 this afternoon. Tomorrow starts off light, but then as a system approaches the coast late in the day, we’ll see 17-20 in the western Gorge, probably strongest and earliest at Stevenson.

Thursday looks quite wind as a low pressure trough crosses the Cascades. We should see 21-24 early, probably from Mosier to Doug’s, picking up to 27-31 from Doug’s to Threemile in the afternoon.

Camping at Roosevelt wouldn’t be a bad idea on Thursday night, as the wind will blow all night. We’ll have upper twenties in the eastern Gorge in the morning, fading as the day goes on and blowing 23-27 from Mosier to Maryhill in the afternoon.

If you want coast action, the central coast is 20-25 today, tomorrow and Thursday, with a 5 foot swell. The north coast should see 15-20.

It’s Tuesday night, and that means you can do the Hood River Tri practice. Free ladies standup night is done for the season, but if you have your own gear, you’re still welcome to come play with Daryl.

Tomorrow is Post and Pinot (and seriously, all you girls are welcome, no matter how slow a mountain biker you are), the Kayak Shed’s shop paddle, and sailboat races. Coming up this weekend, it’s the Tenacity Games, along with the White Salmon Riverfest and Symposium.

I have the day off from the radio forecast today, so I got to sleep in. Looking out at the river, I’m thinking that was a-ok, as it’s pretty light out there. NOAA’s forecast says “breezy”, but I think that’s silliness for today. At best, we’ll see 14-16 from Stevenson to Hood River this afternoon. Tomorrow looks light. Wednesday looks light. Thursday looks windy.

If you’re desperate for wind, it’s going to be windy on the coast: 15-20 on the north coast and 25-30 on the central coast with a 5 foot swell at 9 seconds for the next three days.

If the wind isn’t your priority and you’d rather be popular, get all snazzied up for the 4th of July tonight. My preference is always the boat docks in Hood River, but that’s kinda a private event. However, there’s a party down at the Kayak Shed’s rental area down at Nichols Pond (between the 76 station and the Event Site). They’ll be renting kayaks this evening, and rentals are half price if you mention that you heard about it here. It’s going to be a great viewing spot, and they’ll have BBQ’s fired up, so feel free to show up with meat and a 6-pack and hang out for the show.

Now, finally, I’m just going to leave this one in here, cuz cheap rafting is cool: July 10th, after the Tenacity Games, it’s the White Salmon Riverfest and Symposium. There are all sorts of cool things going on during this event, but the most popular is the $25 community raft trip from BZ to Husum. You must live in Skamania or Klickitat counties or in Hood River to come. If you do, book by calling 800-306-1673, and please mention you heard about it though me (I don’t get a kickback, but I want them to know I am promoting it).

Just a couple more things: Free Tai Chi tonight at 5:30 at Wilson Park and the Alternative Ride is cancelled due to the holiday festivities. But… if you’re headed to the waterfront, please ride your bike.
