There’s still not much going on in the Gorge wind picture today – it seems like we might be setting a record for no wind or light wind days. Light easterlies this morning give way to light west winds this afternoon as a front pushes in from the Pacific. We should see west winds in the 13-16 range from Stevenson to Mosier late this afternoon, but it could happen after dark, so don’t plan your day around it.
That front pushes in tonight, bringing another round of light rain by tomorrow morning. As the weather system swings through, gusty westerlies will hold in the 14-18 range. High pressure will rebuild on Monday, bringing glassy conditions back to the river.
If you want to go biking today, it’s going to be perfect both on the road and on the trails. DVZ reports tacky and happy conditions in Post Canyon, and with the light wind today, conditions will be great on the road too. Don’t forget that today is the Harvest Ride, where you can ride your bike and give back to the Valley. All money raised goes to the Hood River Valley Residents Committee, working for sustainable development in the Valley. Tomorrow is the Echelon Gran Fondo, raising money for Lance Armstrong’s Livestrong Foundation.
And if you want to raise money for guide dogs, head to Dog Day at Skibowl tomorrow, with all sorts of dog-friendly activities including music, a beer garden, agility activities and doggie goodie bags.
Boaters, the White Salmon is at 1.75 feet and the Klickitat’s at 772 cfs. Today is the annual Girl Paddle, and there are at least 20 gals showing up to paddle the Middle and the Lower White Salmon. Meet at Husum at 11 to run the Middle and at Husum at 1:30 to run the Lower.
