It’s a clear morning on Mt. Hood, and it’s looking like a fantastic day to carve on the groomed runs and ride the parks. Light wind, excellent corduroy, cold temps… what more could you want? We’ll see sunshine through the afternoon, with mid and high clouds moving in around 4pm. The snow level will be at less than 1000′ all day long. We’ll see some light flurries tonight, for .1” water value, or up to 1” of new snow. Wind today will be light and variable for much fo the day, becoming SW 10-15 this afternoon and evening. Continued after the chart.

See below for details.
Thursday starts off clear, but quickly becomes cloudy before the sun rises. Snow starts falling around daybreak and continues through early afternoon, after which we’ll just have cloudy sky. The snow level will be 1000′ early, rising to 4000′ in the afternoon. We’ll see .5” WV between 7am and 4pm, for 4-6” of snow. Just snow. Plain old regular Cascade snow. Wind on Thursday will be W 30 in the morning, becoming WNW 20-25 in the afternoon.
As of right now, it looks like the temps will warm up on Friday, giving us a snow level of 6500′, with some light sprinkles possible in the evening. Saturday, as of right now, looks like a soaker in the morning, with maybe some snow in the afternoon, or maybe not. After that, we’re headed into a period of warm high pressure, likely leading to spring skiing conditions next week.
Wednesday morning brings a more potent weather system. Precip starts around 7am and continues through Thursday morning. The snow level will be at the surface early, rising to 4000′ or a bit higher late afternoon and dropping to 2000′ by Thursday morning. We’ll see .6-.9” WV between 7am and 4pm, for 4-7” of new snow. It’s likely the snow will get heavy toward the end of this system as temps warm up into the upper 20’s at 5000′. The next round of snowfall overnight brings .5-.7” WV by Thursday morning, for 5-7” of fluffy new snow.
Thursday brings a few more inches of snow. As of right now, Friday looks dry, Saturday looks snowy, and Sunday looks dry. Also, I should say here that I’m going to take some days off this weekend. I have several very long days of trainings stacked up, and I’m not sure I’m going to be able to find the time to forecast. We shall see.

Random Morning Thoughts
Some people watch politics, some don’t. What’s happening in our political system right now is something much bigger than politics – it’s about values. Many of the candidates are swearing, making racist and misogynistic comments, disparaging the president of the United States, and spreading fear and false rhetoric.
This sort of behavior, last time I checked, is not how most people interact with others. It’s certainly not how you speak to your friends, is it? It’s not how you teach your children to speak to others, is it? So why are we casting votes for people whose behavior is the antithesis of what we expect from those around us?
I won’t tell you who to vote for on the national stage (I have endorsed David Schor for mayor of Portland), but I’d like to suggest that you vote for someone who treats others as you would like to be treated. Do you want your president kicking you out of the country? Would you like your president to be dropping swear worlds in front of your children? Would you like to be the recipient of hatred? Would you like to be the face of fear? Do you think hatred and fear should be the underlying values of this country?
I don’t. If you agree, cast your vote for someone, anyone, who isn’t spewing fear and hatred. You may have to hunt far and wide for that person, but let’s keep our country from being rebuilt on a foundation of rage and terror, because that won’t benefit any of us. Now, go out and behave better than our politicians today. Have an awesome day.

Gorge Weather Forecast
When I stepped outside to check the weather this morning, all I could see was Nothing. Expect a cloudy start to the day (unless you’re above the Nothing), some sunshine midday, and clouds this afternoon. Temps will be in the mid 30’s early and the mid 40’s in the afternoon. We may see a few sprinkles tonight, and we may not. Heck, we could even see a few snow flurries tonight! East wind. No rainbows.
Tomorrow looks tricky, with cold temps through 1pm and heavy precip all day long. The forecast for tomorrow morning is 33 degrees, with mid-40’s in the afternoon. It’s likely we’ll see heavy mixed precipitation (with snow in the upper valleys) between 7am and 1pm, followed by moderate rain all afternoon and evening. I supposed it’s possible we’ll just see rain, but I think a mix of snow and rain is more likely (and Murphy’s Law suggests that will be the case too, as I have to drive to Portland tomorrow). East wind. 4% chance of rainbows.
Thursday looks rainy between 7am and 4pm, followed by partly to mostly cloudy sky in the afternoon. Temps will be in the mid 30’s early and the mid 40’s in the afternoon. Light west wind. 99% chance of rainbows. Friday looks cloudy. Saturday morning looks really wet. After that, assuming the models are correct, we’re headed into a week-long stretch of warm(er), dry weather.

Road and Mountain Biking
It was dry yesterday, and it’s dry right now. That means Syncline is calling your (and my) name today. The road biking will also be great, but I’m going to suggest you wear more layers than I did last time I went riding. I froze. BarMitts to keep your hands warm would be an excellent addition to your riding outfit.
