The weather on Mt. Hood this morning is a little unsettled, and by unsettled, I mean the precipitation type. It’s switching back and forth between freezing rain (at 24 degrees) and snow. We’ll see the snow level this morning around 6000′, dropping to 5500′ by 10am and 5000′ by 1pm. We’ll see .3” water value (WV) mixed precip today, pretty much ending by 4pm. It’s likely it will be snow after 10am, with just an inch or so of accumulation possible. Wind today will be SW 15 early, rising to SW 30 in the afternoon. Continued after the chart.

Random Morning Thoughts
I’m not feeling super inspired this morning – I spent the weekend at an awesome training, and I’m emotionally drained. When I can’t think of what to write, or when I unconsciously want to procrastinate, I often find myself opening the fridge or freezer in search of a snack.
Many of us do this, I think: we open the fridge or freezer, look for something, don’t find it, and go back to what we’re doing. A short while later, we do the same thing – get up, look in the fridge, find nothing interesting and sit back down. This is a pattern that shows up in other places than snack-seeking (those poor guys at Malheur National Wildlife Refuge must be doing this a lot). We try a behavior, it doesn’t reward us, and we try it again.
It’s almost as if we aren’t capable of seeing another option, so we mindlessly repeat.
See if you can catch yourself doing this – going to the same old bars looking for dates, trying the same old dieting patterns, being in relationship with your parents in the same old ways – and stop yourself. Try a new approach, one that feels unfamiliar and perhaps unsettling. Just by trying something different, you’ll open up a world of options.
I wasn’t sure how to wrap this reflection up, and I just had an urge to look in the fridge. Instead, I’m going to take a swig off the quart of half-n-half sitting in front of me. That’s definitely something I’ve never done before, and it’ll definitely shake up my world. You go try something equally silly today, and have an awesome day.

Gorge Weather Forecast
It’s a cloudy morning in the Gorge with some drizzle falling west of Hood River. Temps will be in the mid 30’s all day today at river level. Up in the upper valleys, it appears to be sub-freezing, and that means it’s probably freezing rain if it’s precipitating. Sorry about that, upper valleys. Expect light on-and-off drizzle through early afternoon. East wind. 14% chance of rainbows (I saw one yesterday at the edge of the Nothing in Cascade Locks).
Tomorrow looks cloudy to start with sprinkles after 1pm and steady moderate rain after 7pm. Temps will be in the low to mid 30’s early and in the low 40’s in the afternoon. East wind. 14% chance of rainbows. Wednesday looks rainy to start, showery midday, with another round of steadier rain after 1pm. Temps will be in the mid 30’s early and the low to mid 40’s in the afternoon. East wind fading to light and variable wind. 34% chance of rainbows.
The next chance for weather excitement is on Saturday. Models currently predict a big snowstorm, but that could change between now and then. My gut instinct says we’ll see rain instead of snow – models aren’t predicting quite enough cold air… but, you never know…

Road and Mountain Biking
Looks like the roads have finally cleared off enough to allow for road biking, or at least riding your cross bike on the road. As for the trails, well, I just got a report from Syncline. It’s a no-go due to freeze-thaw conditions. Don’t do it – you’ll damage the trails.
