Good morning!
What a day! Snow keeps falling on Mt. Hood through 1pm or so, with another .4” water value for 5-7’ of new snow with the snow level at 500’ or less. After that, we’ll see partly cloudy skies. Wind will be W 20-25 all day. If you’re headed to the resorts, expect parking lots to shut down early and reopen late today.
MLK day starts off partly cloudy, or possibly with high cloudy, with snow starting in the early afternoon. We’ll see .5” WV between 4pm and Tuesday 4am, for another 6-8” of new. Wind on Monday will be NW 25-35 early, swinging to SW 20-25 by 1pm and building to SW 35-40 by 4pm.
Tuesday will be snowy, with another .7” WV by 4pm for 8-10” of new snow. The snow level will be 1000’ with WSW wind at 35-40 early, buiding to 50-55 in the afternoon.
Things get interesting on Wednesday, as a much warmer system swings through. How much snow we get depends on when the warm half of this system arrives. Right now, it looks like the snow level will be at 1500’ at 4am, rising quickly to 7500’ by 1pm and then dropping back to 6000’ by 4pm, with a lot of moisture. I think we’ll see 1-1.5” Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning, for 12-18” of new snow, and then I think it’ll switch to rain by 10am with rain through mid afternoon and then a rain/snow mix overnight. Sorry, Tom. Winds will be SW 35-45 early, rising to SW 60-70+ by 1pm and holding through the afternoon.
Right now, it looks like that 6000’ish snow level will hold through 1pm Thursday, when things cool off again. Models are showing a monster of a system headed directly at Mt. Hood Friday night… keeping an eye on that one for sure.
