Mt. Hood Forecast

Mother Nature gave us about half the forecast snow yesterday, but it’s still better than nothing at all and should make the groom better. Snowfall amounts this week look limited, but temps look cold enough to hold the snowpack as-is.

Monday starts with flurries and turns clear by afternoon. The snow level will be 1000′-1500′ all day and will drop to a freezing level of 0′ overnight. Just a trace of snow is forecast. Wind: NW 20-25 in the morning, W 10 in the afternoon, and SSW 0-10 overnight.

Tuesday starts clear. Snow moves in late afternoon and continues overnight. The snow level will be 0′ in the morning, 1500′ in the afternoon, and 2000′ overnight. About 0.3” water equivalent is forecast overnight, for 3-4” of light, fluffy snow. Wind: SSW 0-10 early, SSE 10-30 in the afternoon, and SW 15-30 overnight.

Flurries continue on Wednesday morning with sunbreaks in the afternoon and light snow overnight. The snow level will be 0-2000′ all day, depending on your location. Just a trace falls in the morning followed by sunshine in the afternoon and 0.1” WE for an inch of snow overnight. Wind: SW 15-30 early, SW 5-15 in the afternoon, and WSW 15-20 after midnight.

Models are not in agreement about the details for the rest of the week. The general picture is cool weather and low snow levels with intermittent periods of light snowfall. Have fun!

Note on wind speeds. Different wind directions are experienced in different ways on Mt. Hood. For example, west wind at 50mph will hit the slopes and exposed ridges at W 50. SW 50 may hit the ridges at SW 50, but will likely only be SW 20 below tree line. Hence the ranges for wind. Depends where you are on the mountain. Hopefully that helps clarify.
