Mt. Hood Forecast
Mellow, mild weather sticks around for several days. Models are hinting at a significant pattern change in about ten days – almost all ensembles members are calling for colder, wetter weather. But that’s ten days out… let’s look at the next three days!
Thursday will be sunny on the mountain. Clouds move in after midnight. The free air freezing level will be 7000′ early, 11,000′ in the afternoon, and 8000′ overnight. No precip. Wind: WSW 10-15 early, SW 10-20 in the afternoon, and WSW 15-20 after midnight.
Friday starts with some light rain. It should clear up by early afternoon, leaving the mountain with clear sky overnight. The snow level will be 8000′ in the morning, 3500′ after the precip hits, and all over the place after midnight (9000′ free air freezing level with various pockets of air below). About 0.2” water equivalent (WE) is forecast. Call it .2” rain with a trace of snow at the end. Wind: WSW 15-20 early, NW 15-20 in the afternoon, and light and variable overnight.
Saturday will be sunny all day. The free air freezing level will be 9000′ early, 10,000′ in the afternoon, and 9500′ after midnight. Wind: light and variable early, W 10 in the afternoon, and W 30 after midnight. A couple inches of snow are in the forecast Sunday morning with clear sky Sunday afternoon into Monday.
Note on wind speeds. Different wind directions are experienced in different ways on Mt. Hood. For example, west wind at 50mph will hit the slopes and exposed ridges at W 50. SW 50 may hit the ridges at SW 50, but will likely only be SW 20 below tree line. Hence the ranges for wind. Depends where you are on the mountain. Hopefully that helps clarify.
Gorge Wind Forecast
Thursday’s an easterly day: 30-35 all day at Rooster and 20-25 at Stevenson and Viento. There’s a lot of debris in the river, meaning it’s not all that safe. River flow is 221kcfs (!), river temp is 42, and high temp forecast is 48. Friday brings easterlies at 15-20 at Rooster and 10-15 at Stevenson in the morning. Afternoon: westerlies at 5-8 through the whole Gorge. High temp: 48. Saturday starts with E 20-25 at Rooster and Stevenson and finishes the same. High temp: 46. Sunday currently has a forecast for westerlies in the 20’s east of the The Dalles and teens to the west.

Hood River Weather Forecast
High clouds this morning quickly dissolve. Clear sky for the rest of the day. Temps will be in the mid 30’s early and upper 40’s later. Easterlies. No rainbows. Friday starts cloudy with drizzle and ends mostly cloudy. Temps will be in the mid 30’s early and upper 40’s later. Light easterlies turn to light westerlies. 87% chance of rainbows. Saturday brings the Nothing in the morning and partly cloudy sky later. Temps will be in the low-mid 30’s early and mid 40’s later. Easterlies. No rainbows.

Cycling
Volunteers needed! Columbia Area Mountain Bike Advocate (CAMBA) is doing small projects at the Syncline this winter: treadwork and trail maintenance. Show that we care and want to protect it! Due to COVID restrictions, work party numbers are limited, so if you can help, contact Ann 509-637-three seven one three. Hikers, runners, mountain bikers, and sightseers all welcome! Do be aware of the possibility of freeze-thaw (muddy) conditions, especially on trails that are not under a tree canopy. Do not ride if it was below freezing last night and is above freezing when you want to ride. The soil structure will be liquefied, and you will do permanent damage to trails. Consider riding gravel roads instead.

Local Events
Weekly events: The Kainos Coffee run happens in The Dalles every Tuesday morning at 6am. There are sailboat races at the Hood River Marina every Wednesday evening. Dirty Fingers has a group mountain bike ride (bring lights) Wednesday nights at 5:30pm. Cheno has an outdoor HIIT workout at Griffin House in Hood River at 6pm on Wednesday nights. There is a BLM rally every Tuesday evening at 5:30 at the Salmon Fountain in Hood River, and there’s a White Coats for BLM rally every Thursday at noon at 12th and May in Hood River.
