Mt. Hood Forecast
Drizzle this morning switches to flurries mid-morning and clear sky this afternoon. The snow level will be 7000′ early, 4000′ in the afternoon, and 10,000′ overnight. About 0.2” water equivalent arrives this morning, mostly as rain, then as a few snowflakes. Trace of new during the day. Dry weather overnight. Wind: WSW 25-35 daytime, NW 15-20 afternoon, SW 0-5 overnight.
Saturday looks clear during the day, high overcast in the evening, and cloudy after midnight. The freezing level will be 10,000′ all day and 8000′ overnight. Wind: SW 0-5 early, W 15 in the afternoon, and WSW 25-40 overnight.
Sunday starts with rain and quickly switches to snow. That won’t last – clear sky returns by afternoon. The snow level will be 8000′ in the wee hours, 5000′ around dawn, 1500′ in the afternoon, and 4500′ after midnight. About 0.1 to 0.2” WE falls in the morning, for up to 1” of new snow. Wind: WSW 25-40 early, NW 35-40 around dawn, NW 25-30 in the afternoon, and N 15-25 overnight.
Monday and Tuesday look dry. Light snow is possible Wednesday. Looking at the extended forecast, we see a period of much colder weather starting at the end of the next week.
Note on wind speeds. Different wind directions are experienced in different ways on Mt. Hood. For example, west wind at 50mph will hit the slopes and exposed ridges at W 50. SW 50 may hit the ridges at SW 50, but will likely only be SW 20 below tree line. Hence the ranges for wind. Depends where you are on the mountain. Hopefully that helps clarify.
Gorge Wind Forecast
Light easterlies on Friday morning, 5-10mph, give way to light westerlies, 7-10mph, from Stevenson to The Dalles this afternoon. River flow is 177kcfs, river temp is 42 degrees, and high temp forecast is 48. Saturday starts with E 20-25 at Stevenson and Rooster. By late afternoon, that wind drops to 5-10mph. High temp: 46. Sunday starts with W 13-16 from Stevenson to Biggs. Afternoon wind picks up to 22-25 from Stevenson to Rufus. High temp: 49.

Light west wind mid—morning on. 85% chance of rainbows. Saturday starts with Nothing cloud and ends partly cloudy. Temps will be in the mid 30’s early and mid 40’s later. Easterlies. No rainbows. Sunday looks cloudy with light rain to start and partly to mostly cloudy in the afternoon. Temps will be in the mid 30’s early and upper 40’s later. Moderate westerlies. 99% chance of rainbows.

Cycling
Volunteers needed! Columbia Area Mountain Bike Advocate (CAMBA) is doing small projects at the Syncline this winter: treadwork and trail maintenance. Show that we care and want to protect it! Due to COVID restrictions, work party numbers are limited, so if you can help, contact Ann 509-637-three seven one three. Hikers, runners, mountain bikers, and sightseers all welcome! Do be aware of the possibility of freeze-thaw (muddy) conditions, especially on trails that are not under a tree canopy. Do not ride if it was below freezing last night and is above freezing when you want to ride. The soil structure will be liquefied, and you will do permanent damage to trails. Consider riding gravel roads instead.

Local Events
Weekly events: The Kainos Coffee run happens in The Dalles every Tuesday morning at 6am. There are sailboat races at the Hood River Marina every Wednesday evening. Dirty Fingers has a group mountain bike ride (bring lights) Wednesday nights at 5:30pm. Cheno has an outdoor HIIT workout at Griffin House in Hood River at 6pm on Wednesday nights. There is a BLM rally every Tuesday evening at 5:30 at the Salmon Fountain in Hood River, and there’s a White Coats for BLM rally every Thursday at noon at 12th and May in Hood River.
