Gorge Wind Forecast

Y’all did a real fine job yesterday. Only one small fire was started at Sevenmile Hill and one at Meadows. As best we can tell, they’re both out now. Lesser easterlies continue today through Thursday. Fire danger will still be high, but the air quality should be better, so get ready to get on the water.

For Tuesday, our easterly gradient is .23, up from last night, but with lesser winds on the water. Most likely this is because easterlies are spilling over the Cascades, but it’s hard to tell with so many wind sensors down due to power cuts. You can expect east wind at 35-45 all day at Rooster Rock, 30-35 at Stevenson, and 20-25 at Viento. East of there, we’ll see light east wind in the morning, 10-15 midday, and a peak of 15-20 between Mosier and Rufus this afternoon. River flow is 92,700cfs and temp is 68 degrees. High temp today: 76.

Wednesday sees the easterlies continue. They’ll be 35-45 at Rooster in the morning and 25-30 there in the afternoon. Expect 25-30 at Stevenson and 20-25 at Viento with a slow decline of 10mph in the afternoon. East of Viento, the wind will be light in the morning and E 10-15 to The Dalles in the afternoon.

Hotter weather and lesser gradients present on Thursday. Morning easterlies will be 20-25 at Rooster, 15-20 at Viento, and 10-15 at Stevenson. Afternoon: E 5-10 everywhere from Rooster to Arlington. It appears we’ll see a return to light westerlies on Friday.

Due to crowding and unsafe conditions at Port beaches, parking restrictions now apply Friday through Sunday. Remember: crowds lead to closures. Kiting is no longer allowed at the Marina – it has become unsafe for other user groups. Lyle is now off limits unless you can get to the sandbar without crossing the RR tracks. If you cross the tracks, you will be ticketed. Lyle: loved to death. Roosevelt: still closed due to wind damage from earlier this year. Mosier is only available to residents of 97040 (Mosier).

Coast, Jones, Sauvie’st

Thursday: S10-15/SW5-10/S1-20, NW 3′ @ 7. Jones Tuesday: E 10-13. Wednesday: E 5-10. Thursday: W 10-13. Sauvie’s Tuesday: E10-15. Wednesday: E5-10. Thursday: calm.

Hood River Weather Forecast

Clear sky this morning will hopefully stay that way with no dust storms or smoke from the NE. Temps will be in the upper 50’s early and mid 70’s later. Light to moderate easterlies. No rainbows. Wednesday looks sunny. Temps will be in the low 50’s early and mid 80’s later. Light to moderate westerlies. No rainbows. Thursday will be sunny and warmer. Temps will be in the low 50’s early and low 90’s in the afternoon. Light east wind. No rainbows. Critical fire danger persists through Thursday.     Looking for a complete Columbia Gorge forecast? Cycling

9/5: Hood River County lands are now closed between 9pm and 5am due to extreme fire danger and the likelihood of nighttime users starting a fire. Lands are still open during the day. Moto use is limited to developed roads. Whoopdee, Hospital Hill, and Underwood are closed due to fire danger. Respect the closures. Other Post news: Eldorado has reopened, as have other trails associated with that particular timber harvest closure.

Local Events

Weekly events: there are sailboat races at the Hood River Marina every Wednesday evening. Dirty Fingers has a group mountain bike ride Thursday nights at 5:30pm. The small boat group has a friendly and distanced paddle on, I believe, Thursday nights. Cheno has an outdoor HIIT workout at Columbia High School in White Salmon at 6pm on Wednesday nights. That’s pretty much it for outdoor sports. There is a BLM rally every Tuesday evening at 5:30 at the Salmon Fountain in Hood River, and there’s a White Coats for BLM rally every Wednesday evening at 6pm at 12th and May.

Mt. Hood Weather Forecast

Mt. Hood Meadows allows hiking within the permit area. However, you will need to park outside their parking lots. Timberline is open for lift-serve skiing with exemplary guidelines for protecting guests and staff from the transmission of novel coronavirus. Please read their guidelines and rules here. Well done, T-Line! The Mt. Hood weather forecast will be on vacation unless something interesting happens in the weather up there. Timberline is allowing uphill access outside the permit area on the climbers’ trail only.

Have an awesome day!
