Mt. Hood Snow Forecast
It’s Sunday, and it’s a cloudy, snowy morning on Mt. Hood and a sunny morning on Mt. Adams. Go figure. Looks like the weather on Mt. Hood will have intermittent snow and sunbreaks for the next couple of days before a transition to warmer, sunnier weather.
For Sunday, expect intermittent snowfall all day with steadier snowfall overnight. The snow level will be 2500′ early, 4000′ in the afternoon, and 2000′ after midnight. Up to 1” will fall during the day, and up to 3” will fall overnight. Wind will be WNW 20 in the morning, W 25 in the afternoon, and NNW 15 after midnight.
Monday sees continued light snowfall during the day and flurries overnight. The snow level will be 2000′ in the morning. It will rise to 4500′ overnight. Up to 2” snow falls during the day followed by a trace overnight. Wind will be NNW 15 in the morning, NE 10 in the afternoon, and NW 15 after midnight.
Flurries on Tuesday morning transition to partly cloudy sky in the afternoon and clear sky overnight. The free air freezing level will be 4500′ in the morning. it will rise to 7000′ overnight. Wind will be NW 15 in the morning, NE 15 in the afternoon, and E 15 overnight. The next few days after that look warm and sunny.
Random Morning Thoughts
How’s this for ‘random’: I’m going to go take a shower rather than sitting here coming up with something reflective to say. I hope your day is as awesome as my shower is going to be!
Disclaimer required by my grad school program: I am not your therapist, but I am seeing clients at this time at Comprehensive Healthcare in White Salmon. In the meantime, I am your weather forecaster. Take everything I say with a grain of salt, and consult with your actual therapist about your mental health issues. One other thing: I plan to keep doing this forecast indefinitely. Forecasting and counseling are both deeply meaningful and nourishing to me.
Gorge Wind Forecast
Looks like we’re entering an extended stretch of moderate west wind as high pressure sets up off the coast and warmer air sets up in the desert. For Sunday, we’ll have 10-13 everywhere to start the day. A 1034mb offshore high drives afternoon westerlies at 24-28 from Mosier to Arlington. The western Gorge, Stevenson to Hood River, will likely be in the 12-15 range. River temp is 50 degrees. Flow at The Dalles this morning is 335kcfs, which will make the current quite strong at Rufus.
Monday sees clouds and rain in the western Gorge with sunshine and warm weather out east. That’ll give us 12-15 everywhere to start the day. In the afternoon, the wind picks up to 24-27 from Viento to Rowena with 10-13 east and west of that section of river. We’ll have another round of westerlies on Tuesday. Models disagree on the strength: the GFS likes max speeds of 19-23, and the Euro likes 24-28. Guess we’ll have to wait and see!

According to Dirty Fingers, Dog River is open and clear of trees. Surveyor’s is open with “several” trees down. Knebal and Eightmile are open. Bear Springs is open and hosting the Bear Springs Trap race this weekend. Post got .02” of rain overnight, probably not enough to impact the riding. Hospital Hill is full of cow poop. Syncline is full of ticks and poison oak. Whoopdee is full of wildflowers, as is Columbia Hills. The HRATS have a trail work party at 9:30am on Sunday. Meet at Family Man and then spend a few hours on the Borderline trail.
