Meet your forecaster: Temira

For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of the Gorge: riding river swell, shredding powder, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work.

This passion led Temira to take a vow: In 2006, Temira decided to provide the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and Gorge commuters. With Temira’s guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and just plain have more fun! But the story doesn’t end there.

There’s “Temira’s Awesome Travel Advisory Service” and “Valuable Advice for Gardeners Inhabiting Neighboring Areas” – the Gorge’s premier microclimate forecast and gardening information. When winter storms, extreme heat, hail, or avalanches on SR-14 and I-84 threaten, TATAS keeps everyone and their tomatoes and giant pumpkins and cash crops safe.

Temira’s relentless efforts keep the forecasts flowing. But it ain’t easy: each forecast takes a couple of hours. That’s where you come in. By contributing, you’re not just supporting Temira’s passion project – you’re investing in the safety and well-being of the entire Gorge community. Your financial support ensures these essential forecasts remain accessible to all, free of charge.

Good morning.

Skiing and snowboarding don’t get no more bettah than this.

We’ll see moderate to heavy snowfall on Mt. Hood today with the snow level at 0’. Snow will taper off after 1pm, remaining light to moderate through midnight. Winds will be nearly calm today. Total precip will be around .5”, for 6-8” more light and dry and fluffy blower powder.

Tomorrow starts off cloudy, but clears rapidly for a cold, dry, sunny day with the freezing level at 0’. Winds will be light until 4pm, building to E 20-30 late in the day.

Saturday starts off clear, with clouds moving in late in the afternoon. Winds start off light, building to NW 15-20 by 1pm and picking up again after 10pm. The freezing level will be at the surface.

By Sunday morning, we’ll have some wind issues. Early morning winds will be WNW 40-45, building to W 45-50 by 1pm. Models are all over the place with the snowfall on Sunday. One shows less than .25” and one shows nearly 1” of precip. Because I’m an optimist, I’m going with snow all day long for 8-10” of new. But we’ll have to wait 48 hours to see the real forecast.

It looks like we’ll see warmer temps next week, with the potential for icky-style warming on Wednesday, but that’s a long, long way out.

Yippee! Have a great day today!
