There’s a nice breeze out there this morning, and it’s driven by a nice set of gradients and a solid marine layer in Portland, a great sign for a good day on the water. The only issue today is a weak shortwave that will clip ORizona and WAlifornia, possibly having a detrimental effect on wind quality. That said, if you want to get on the water today, you’ll likely be able to do just that! Continued after the chart.

Gorge Wind Forecast, continued…
Our 7am gradients were .13 (pdx-dls), .06 (dls-psc) and .28 (eph-dls). Expect 17-21 this morning from Viento to Mosier with 12-15 further east. By mid-morning, we’ll have 24-27 from Stevenson to Mosier, with the Rowena and Rufus stretches joining in by early afternoon. Arlington will end up with 15-18 today. Do be aware that this weather system moving through today could knock the wind down everywhere but Stevenson, Avery and Arlington. You’ll know that’s happening if Stevenson is reading higher than every other beach. If that’s the case, just go there!

See below for details.
Tomorrow starts off with 16-19 from Viento to Mosier with less further west and further east. Models suggest the wind will drop midday and then pick back up to 16-19 in the afternoon. Let’s go with that forecast for now. Thursday starts with 12-15 and picks up to 23-26 with the strongest wind near Hood River early and from Stevenson to The Dalles in the afternoon. If we get really lucky, the marine push will start early giving us a late-day session of 25-28+. But maybe that’ll happen overnight. Anyway, don’t leave your garbage cans out Thursday night, because we’re expecting 28-32 right off the bat on Friday. As of right now, the weekend looks like teens to low twenties.

Random Morning Thoughts
I was up late the last couple of nights, and my reflection muscles are still asleep this morning. Since I have nothing thoughtful to say at this moment, I’ll leave you with… RAINBOWS AND UNICORNS. Thanks to Pepi Gerald for sharing this video of the world’s most awesome cookies.
What, you may ask, is so special about rainbows and unicorns? They’re magical, duh! Our world is grown and green and blue and gray, for the most part, with the exception of beautiful flowers and birds and bugs. But a rainbow, now, that’ll catch your eye. All those bright colors packed into one small portion of the sky. That’s unusual and special and magical and delightful and awe-inspiring. Some people chase that kind of high with drugs. You can get it by admiring a rainbow.
As for unicorns… (no, not the kind in the urban dictionary), well, how incredible is it that you can be flying across a river, a river, people, and get trampled by a huge breaking wave? Or better yet, that you can do an aerial off-the-lip on a river? That’s awe-inspiring and magical too!
So there you go. Even though marijuana’s now legal, you can get a much better high from rainbows and unicorns. Or brightly colored cookies that … well, I won’t ruin it for you. Watch the video.

You are not going to believe this: it’s ANOTHER hot and sunny day in an historic ORizona/WAlifornia heat wave. Expect temps in the upper 60’s this morning (open those windows and doors) and low 90’s this afternoon (close those windows and doors). Moderate wind. No rainbows.
Tomorrow will be sunny with temps in the upper 60’s early and the mid 90’s in the afternoon. Moderate wind. No rainbows. Thursday may see some cumulus clouds in the afternoon. There’s even a slight chance of thunder! Temps will be in the mid 60’s early and the upper 80’s to low 90’s in the afternoon. Moderate wind. No rainbows. Temps will drop 5-10 degrees starting Friday, leaving us still above normal, but less stiflingly hot.
