Mt. Hood Snow Forecast

There’s not really any significant snow in the forecast through the weekend, but Monday is starting to show some potential for a base-building event down to 5000′. Cross your fingers. In the meantime, the Crag Rats have their 90th anniversary party at the Crag Rats Hut in Odell (near Hood River) on Sunday from 1 to 3. They’re the folks who rescue you if bad things happen while you’re climbing Hood (or doing other outdoorsy stuff). Back to the forecast…

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast, continued…

Today, Friday, will start off with fog down low and sun if you go high enough. It should be mostly clear with some high clouds on the hill later on. The snow level will be 6000′ early and 8000-9000′ in the afternoon. Wind will be in the SW/SE 10-15 range all day.

Saturday starts off with light precipitation and doesn’t stop precipitating for as long as it’s Saturday. The snow level will be 8000′ in the morning, dropping as low as 6000′ for a while midday and then rising to 6500′. We’ll see .3” water value (WV) that falls as rain mixed with some wet snow between 5am and 5pm. Scattered sprinkles continue overnight. Wind Saturday will be SW 5 early, rsiing to SW 15-20 midday and staying that way.

Sunday looks much wetter but not too much colder than Saturday. We’ll see precip between 11am and midnight, with dry weather for the wee hours of Monday. The snow level Sunday will be 6500′ early, 6250′ in the evening, and 5000′ after 11pm. We’ll see .7” WV between 11am and 5pm, and that will fall as rain with wet snow mixed in. Most of the precip will have fallen by the time the snow level drops to 5000′, but we can expect 1-2” max at 5000′ at the tail end of this system.

If the forecast is correct for Monday (and that’s a long ways out in forecasting time), it’s quite possible we’ll see 6” of snow at 5000′. Fingers crossed!

Gorge Wind Forecast

Expect east wind at 25-30 at Rooster and 20-25 at Stevenson for most of the day today as an upper level low sits off the coast. Saturday looks like E 10-15 in the morning and west 5-10 after 2pm. Sunday sees E 20-25 in the morning with heavy rain as yet another low pressure system travels up the coastline. Late in the day that low moves onshore, setting us up for strong westerlies. That will probably happen after dark.

Random Morning Thoughts

Most days something randomly jumps into my head. This space becomes a forum for exploration. Today I have something specific on my mind: I have an internship interview. While the power to get a “yes” resides within me, the knowledge that all of you are rooting for me would also be helpful. So, if you have a moment to send some loving, supportive vibes into the universe, please do so! Wish me solidity, strength, authenticity and clarity. And awesomeness. I’ll take that too. And while you’re sending me those vibes, send some to yourself, to your friends, and to everyone in the world. We all deserve all those things. Have an awesome day!

Disclaimer required by my grad school program: I am not your therapist (but I could be 51 graduate school credits from now). I am your weather forecaster. Take everything I say with a grain of salt, and consult with your actual therapist about your mental health issues. One other thing: I plan to keep doing this forecast indefinitely, even when I am a therapist.

Gorge Weather Forecast

My friends, those are not clouds. That low dark grayness is the Nothing, coming to sap your will to live. You can combat it by getting outside and playing. Play, fun and imagination drive the Nothing away. Expect clouds this morning, sun midday, and clouds later on. Temps will be in the upper 40’s early and the low 60’s this afternoon. Light wind. No rainbows. Saturday sees on and off showers all day. Temps will be in the upper 40’s early and the mid 50’s in the afternoon. Light wind. 87% chance of rainbows, especially in the afternoon. Sunday looks wet, rainy, showery and sprinkly. Temps will be in the low 40’s early and the mid 50’s in the afternoon. Light wind early, strong wind in the evening. 46% chance of rainbows.

Road and Mountain Biking

The trails are too muddy to ride. If the sun comes out today, Syncline might be okay this afternoon. Other than that, leave them alone. In road biking new, hey, at least it won’t rain today. And if you check the webcams, you may find that The Dalles is out of the Nothing. I just checked, and it’s not. Maybe later?

Upcoming Events

It’s Friday, and I just woke up but some people have already run 4.1 miles and eaten their free donut and coffee. If you’d like to earn coffee and donut for jogging, all you have to do is show up at Kickstand Coffee at 7am on Fridays. As if… Who gets up that early anyway? Not me after being at school until 9:30!

Coming up Saturday, the movie Room to Breathe shows at the Columbia Art Gallery. This flick is about a school in California that replaced detention with meditation. Should be good. 5:30pm, Saturday evening. Also, the Crag Rats have their 90th year celebration this Sunday from 1pm to 3pm at the Crag Rat Hut in Odell. All are welcome!

Have an awesome day today!
