Mt. Hood Snow Forecast

It’s Saturday morning and the snow level is currently around 6500′. It’ll stay that way all day and all night with on-and-off light rain or mixed precipitation. We’ll see .2” water value (WV) today, mostly before 5pm. No accumulation. Wind will be SW 15 early and SW 5-10 after 5pm. Back to the forecast…

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast, continued…

Sunday brings more precipitation with the snow level at 6500′, 6000′ in the afternoon, 5500′ when the second weather system hits, and 4500′ at the tail end of that system. The morning weather system brings .4” WV. That’ll fall as rain or mixed precipitation. No accumulation. The second weather system brings around .7” WV. The majority of that will fall as rain at 5000′, but we’ll probably see 2-4” of snow at 5000′ at the tail end of that system. Then we’ll see a social media blitz of photos. Wind on Sunday will be SE 10-15 early, SW 15 in the afternoon, and SW 25 in the evening.

Monday starts off with flurries at the tail end of Sunday’s system. Clear sky returns by 8am, with clouds moving back in during the evening. A few scattered snowflakes or raindrops fall on Monday night, but it won’t be anything to write home to your cat about. The snow level / free air freezing level will be 4500′ Monday morning and 5500′ on Monday evening. Wind will be W 45 early, slowly fading to SW 15 in the evening.

Tuesday looks cloudy with trace amounts of mixed precipitation, snowflakes, or possibly sprinkles. The snow level will be 5500′ early, 5000′ midday, and 6000′ in the evening. No measurable accumulation of snow. Wind will be SW 15ish all day long. The next two weather systems (Wednesday and Friday) currently look too warm to be of much help at 5000′. Pray for snow.

Gorge Wind Forecast

It’s Saturday. Expect east wind that peaks at 10-15 today. Expect light wind after 2pm. Sunday brings lots of rain along with easterlies at 20-25 at Steven’s Locks and Rooster all day. Monday sees a weather system move inland early in the morning, potentially setting up a round of strong westerlies. As of right now, it looks like we’ll see west wind at 25-29 from Rowena to Threemile between dawn and noon. It’s hard to say what will happen between Steven’s Locks and Mosier, because that depends on the clouds. I’d guess gusty 19-23 for now. Do not wait for the afternoon, as models show a quick fade to W 10-13 in the afternoon. Tuesday looks light and variable. There is a work party at Rowena on November 5th from 9am to noon. Snacks and drinks will be provided. Please show up!

Random Morning Thoughts

I had an interview yesterday for my dream internship. I won’t have an answer until Monday, and I’m going to be honest and vulnerable… waiting for an answer is scary and painful. In terms of Buddhist psychology, this is probably a sign that I’m too attached to the outcome. In terms of being a growing, learning human, it means that I care deeply about this place, this work, these people, and this opportunity.

I’m noticing that I can’t bring myself to contemplate the possibility of a “yes” answer. It’s easier to prepare for a no answer so I won’t be blindsided. Either of these approaches comes with downsides. The best approach, and the most difficult to achieve, is to let go of the “yes” and let go of the “no” and simply wait in peace.

It’s hard to do when we care deeply about something. When control of outcomes passes from us to someone else, we tend to ruminate, regret, wonder, and fantasize. This only creates more agitation in the waiting. I generally have a rule in the RMT that I don’t speak about something unless I’ve been able to implement some sort of a solution. I’m not there yet with this one, but I feel better having typed these words. Thanks for listening. May you be at peace. Have an awesome day.

Gorge Weather Forecast

I swear to fuck that I saw blue sky and sunshine yesterday. I did. I know I did. But the memory has faded away like the leaves of the poison oak. Today will be cloudy with sprinkles through the afternoon with dry weather in the evening. Temps will be in the upper 40’s early and upper 50’s this afternoon. Light wind. 2% chance of rainbows. Sunday looks rainy and cloudy. Temps will be in the mid 40’s early and the mid 50’s in the afternoon. Light wind. 2% chance of rainbows. Monday looks partly cloudy with a few scattered sprinkles. Temps will be in the upper 40’s early and the mid 50’s in the afternoon. Moderate to strong west wind. 32% chance of rainbows.

Road and Mountain Biking

The trails are too wet to ride. The next chance for the trails to be not-wet is probably late Monday for Syncline. As for road biking, I’m thinking Monday is the next best opportunity. On a different note, there is a trail work party on Whoopdee on November 6th at 9am.

Upcoming Events

It’s Saturday, and there’s a trail run every Saturday morning at 8am. That was 20 minutes ago as I write this. For me, it’s too dark and gray out there to go outside yet. Maybe later. There’s a free Zumba class at Columbia Gorge Dance Academy this morning at 11am, and Crossfit has a free outdoor workout at the Hood River Marina picnic shelter from 9:30am to 11:30am.

Coming up this evening, the movie Room to Breathe shows at the Columbia Art Gallery. This flick is about a school in California that replaced detention with meditation. Should be good. 5:30pm, Saturday evening. Also, the Crag Rats have their 90th year celebration this Sunday from 1pm to 3pm at the Crag Rat Hut in Odell. All are welcome!

Have an awesome day today!
