Mt. Hood Snow Forecast

The forecast isn’t looking great for the mountains for the next couple of weeks, so make the most of what is open: two lifts at Timberline and 7k of skategroom at Teacup along with opportunities for wandering the woods in the snow. Generally speaking, the weather stays dry through Monday, turns rainy on the slopes, snows next Tuesday(ish), and then reverts to warm/wet for a bit.

On Wednesday, all you’ll find is sunshine and warm weather in the mountains. Clear sky sticks around all day. The free air freezing level will be around 10,000′ all day and will fall to 9000′ overnight. Temps at 5000′ rise to +11C, 50ish degrees, this afternoon. Wind: ESE 15 this morning, NW 15-20 this afternoon, and E 15 overnight.

Those easterlies drop the temps on Tuesday: the free air freezing level starts at 9000′ and fall to 500′ in the afternoon and 0′ overnight. Wind: E 15-20 in the morning, E 25+ in the afternoon, and E 30+ overnight. Friday will be sunny all day. The free air freezing level near Mt. Hood will be 0′ all day, but temps will slowly rise. Overnight, the free air freezing level could rise as high as 11,000′ with temps at +1C at 5000′. Wind: E 30 in the morning (check lift status at T-line before going), SE 25 in the afternoon, and S 10-20 overnight.

The weekend looks dry with the free air freezing level above 5000′ and moderate variable wind. It’ll be sunny on Saturday and increasingly high overcast Sunday. Precip is forecast to (potentially) return early Monday in the form of rain for the slopes and freezing rain for the drive up. Snow could fall on Tuesday before a return to rainy slopeside weather during the middle of next week. Keep up the dryland training, and make the most of the snow that’s up there! PS: we’ll stick with this every other day forecast until there’s something to talk about!

Local-ish Events

Please let me know of outdoor-related local-ish events. If you don’t tell me, I don’t know!
There are two events on November 19th. There’s a work party on the Indian Creek Trail. That’s 9am-noon. Email [email protected] to register. Also the 19th, at 6pm, Windance has Ladies Night for wind sports. All people who don’t identify as cis-males are welcome to attend (eg: non-binary people, cis-females, trans women, two spirit, etc).

Regular weekly events: Monday brings forest bathing and meditation walk. Meet at 5:15pm Mondays in November at the corner of Arrowhead Ave and Indian Creek Road. Suggested donation up to $20. Ferment’s Tuesday night 4-mile walk/run is at 6pm. At 7:15am on Wednesdays, there’s a run from the White Salmon Bakery. At 7am on Friday morning, there’s a run from Pine Street Bakery. There’s a free Zumba class at 6pm in the parking lot of One Community Health in The Dalles on Wednesday. Providence is sponsoring a walking program called Healthy Strides. Meets Weds at May Street 5:30pm, through Nov 16. All ages welcome, and there’s swag!

Cycling

Now we have freeze-thaw conditions. Please avoid trails that are exposed to the open air, in other words, trails that aren’t under the tree canopy. If you ride trails that froze and then thawed, you’ll do major and probably permanent damage to the tread. The Family Man closure kicked off on November 1st – the area around Family Man and Riordan Hill Road will be closed into December. Upper elevation trails, above 4000′, are likely to have some snow coverage. Rifle deer season is open in both Oregon and Washington, so consider wearing safety colors while you’re riding. If you’re riding Post Canyon, you will need a parking pass. Those can be purchased at many local shops or online.
