Mt. Hood Snow Forecast

It’s another snowy and blowy day on the slopes of Mt. Hood! We’ll see continued heavy snowfall during the day, driving by NW wind and orographics. The snow will taper off tonight. The snow level will be around 4000′ early, quickly dropping to 2500′ or less during the day and falling to 1000′ overnight. We’ll see .6-.7” water value (WV) between 4am and 4pm, for 6-8” of fluffy snow. We’ll see another .3-.4” overnight, for 3-5” of fluffy snow. Wind today will be NW 25-30 all day. Continued after the chart…

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast, continued…

Thursday looks partly cloudy to start. Flurries kick in around noon, continuing through the afternoon and tapering off in the evening. The snow level will be 1500′ early and 2500′ in the evening. We’ll see .1-.2” WV during the day, for a couple inches of new snow. Wind will be NW 25 for much of the day, dropping to W 10 overnight.

Friday looks like a bit of a bummer, as an incoming system starts out cold and turns warm. At this point, it looks like the majority of the moisture will stay to the north of us. That’s a good thing, as it spares the slopes a drenching. We will need to keep an eye on it. For now, it looks like the snow level on Friday will be 2500′ early, 8000′ in the evening, 6000′ after the precip mostly finishes up, and 2500′ after midnight.

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast, finished

This is all subject to change, btw, because the precip location is so borderline right now. Anyway, we’re currently expecting snow to start up around 10am, with .2” WV by 4pm. That will fall, due to the warmer air aloft, as dense snow, just an inch or two. We’ll see another .3” overnight, and that will likely fall as rain. Wind on Friday will be SW 10 early, becoming W 30 in the afternoon and W 45 overnight. With those wind speeds, we may see quite a bit more precip than models are currently suggesting… lots of maybes in the Friday forecast right now…

Saturday currently looks like flurries in the morning with very, very heavy snowfall overnight. We’re talking over a foot of snow Saturday night, followed by another foot of snow and strong wind during the day on Sunday. Stay tuned for more details as the weekend gets closer.

Gorge Wind Forecast

After the least windy fall on record (I made that up), we’re looking at a stretch of west wind. Expect light wind this morning followed by westerlies at 22-25 from Mosier to Arlington this afternoon. Stevenson to Hood River will see gusty 13-16 today. The wind will drop off after 3pm. Thursday starts with W 10-13 everywhere and picks up to W 20-23 from Hood River to Maryhill. Friday starts light and variable and picks up to W 10-13. Saturday currently looks like 20-23 and Sunday looks like 26-30. Stay tuned…

Random Morning Thoughts

I’m thinking I don’t have much to say today, and I’m thinking I have a lot to accomplish in the next couple of hours. You have an awesome day, okay?

Disclaimer required by my grad school program: I am not your therapist (but I could be 51 graduate school credits from now). I am your weather forecaster. Take everything I say with a grain of salt, and consult with your actual therapist about your mental health issues. One other thing: I plan to keep doing this forecast indefinitely, even when I am a therapist.

It’s raining out there again this morning, and we’ll see light rain and sprinkles all day under partly to mostly cloudy sky. Temps will be near 40 early and in the upper 40’s this afternoon. Moderate west wind. 99% chance of rainbows. Thursday looks sprinkly and showery during the day and dry overnight. Temps will be in the upper 30’s early and the mid 40’s in the afternoon. Moderate west wind. 99% chance of rainbows. Friday looks mostly cloudy and showery. Temps will be in the upper 30’s early and the mid 40’s in the afternoon. Light west wind. 99% chance of rainbows. In the long range (and unreliable) forecast, we’re looking at a rain/snow mix on Sunday, our first low-elevation accumulating snow on Monday, and an ice event on Wednesday.

Road and Mountain Biking

No, really. Post Canyon and Whoopdee are too muddy to ride. Really. It’s almost too muddy to jog in Post Canyon right now. Please stop riding the trails. When you ride in the mud, you cup the trails, which keeps them from draining. That damage is nearly impossible to fix, and the time volunteers spend fixing it would be better spent building new trails or making existing trails more awesome. Consider riding the gravel roads instead. There are lots of them around here, and you won’t be doing trail damage if you ride on the roads.

Upcoming Events

It’s Wednesday morning. There’s community meditation at Flow at 8:15. There’s community yoga at the FISH food bank at 10am. There’s ping pong at the Hood River Armory at 5pm and Zumba at the Parkdale Community Center at 6:30pm.

Coming up tonight, Anson’s Bike Buddies has a bike repair party at their storage unit behind Cascade Eye Center in Hood River. Party starts at 5pm. Come help fix up bikes for local kids in need! Mark your calendars for a work party in Post Canyon on Saturday. It’s the last scheduled work party of the season, and we need all of you here to help out.

Have an awesome day today!
