Mt. Hood Weather Forecast

Sub-freezing weather and light snowfall continues on the mountain for the next few days. There’s also a slight chance of afternoon thunder on the mountain, but that’s pretty unlikely. For Wednesday, the day starts cloudy. Steady snowfall moves in by 10am or so and continues through the evening. The sky clears overnight. Wednesday’s snow level will be 3500′ early, 4500′ in the evening, and 4000′ after midnight. Precip: 0.2” water value (WV) during the day for up to 2” of new. 0.2” WV overnight, for up to 2” additional snowfall. Wind will be E 25 early, SW 10 in the afternoon, and SW 15-20 overnight.

Thursday starts partly cloudy. Atmospheric instability builds clouds, a chance of thunder, and some snow flurries in the afternoon. The snow level will be 4000-4500′ all day. Up to 0.1” WV falls in the afternoon and evening, for up to an inch of new snow. Thursday’s wind will be SSW 15 early, light southerly in the afternoon, and light and variable overnight.

Friday looks very similar to Thursday with a bit more snowfall possible. The snow level will be 4000′-4500′ all day. Cloudy in the morning give way to afternoon instability, snowfall, and a slight chance of thunder. About 0.1” WV falls before 5pm, for up to an inch of new. If everything lines up just right, up to 0.2” WV falls in the evening, for up to 2” of new. Wind Friday will be light and variable all day.

As of right now, there’s some disagreement in the models. Saturday looks either clear and dry or partly cloudy with afternoon flurries. Sunday looks either sunny or increasingly cloudy with afternoon snow. Either way, the weather looks more dry than the Wednesday through Friday period, and the P-type looks like snow. It does appear some rain will move in for the mountain in the Sunday night through Tuesday time period…

Gorge Wind

Wednesday starts out with easterlies at 20-25 near Rooster and 15-20 near Viento and Stevenson. The wind will hold at Rooster today and drop to 5-10 at Cascade Locks this afternoon. River flow is 191kcfs and temp is 43 degrees. Thursday brings easterlies at 10-15 near Rooster and light easterlies near Stevenson. Afternoon: light and variable. Friday: calm or light easterly in the morning and E 5mph in the afternoon. Light and variable wind for both days this weekend.

Hood River Weather Forecast

It’s a cloudy start to Wednesday, and it might end up with showers in the afternoon and early evening. Heck, there’s even a chance of thunder. Temps will be in the upper 30’s early and low 50’s later. East wind. No rainbows. Thursday might start out clear or partly cloudy, which means there’s a chance of frost in areas above 1000′ or so. Thursday afternoon looks cloudy and showery with a chance of thunder. Temps will be in the low to mid 30’s early and upper 50’s later. Light and variable wind. 16% chance of rainbows. Friday looks identical to Thursday, minus the frost. At this point, the weekend looks mostly dry (some model disagreement exists).

Road and Mountain Biking

Syncline and Columbia Hills remain your only Gorge options for mountain biking at this time. In road biking news, State Road, Mosier to The Dalles, and Sevenmile have been swept of gravel. The grass widows are blooming, but there’s no sign of Balsam Root yet.

Upcoming Events

For Wednesday, we’ve got free or by-donation yoga at the FISH Food Bank in Hood River at 10am. Coming up this weekend, there’s a work party at the Nichols Boat Basin Natural Area at 9am. The first swap meet of the season is Saturday morning, 7am to noon at Luhr Jensen parking lot in Hood River.
