Mt. Hood Snow Forecast

Although the rain was staying west of the ski slopes as I was writing this forecast, the weather system was forecast to move eastward during the day. The snow level will be 6500′ for most of the daylight hours, 6000′ around 5pm, 5000′ around 8pm, and 1500′ around midnight, by which time the precipitation will basically be done. We’ll see .8” rain between 8am and 5pm, followed by some mixed precip and then 1-3” of snow at the tail end of this system. Wind today will be WSW 35 for much of the day, W 35 as the system passes around 8pm, and WSW 30 overnight.

Thursday looks clear or partly cloudy and cooler with no precipitation. The free air freezing level will be 1000′ early and 2500′ in the afternoon and evening. Wind will be W 35 early in the morning, backing off to SW 15 by 5pm and staying there overnight.

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast, finished

Friday starts off cloudy and turns rainy in the afternoon, perhaps with a shot of snow or mixed precip to start. The snow level will be 2500′ ‘early, 5500′ when the precip hits, and 7000′ after midnight. We’ll see .2” water value (WV) that falls as snow or mixed precip before the rain starts, for 1-2” of new snow. Then we’ll see .3” rain overnight. Wind on Friday will be SW 10-15 early, rising to SW 40 in the evening and staying there overnight.

Saturday currently looks rainy early and snowy in the afternoon, although there’s some disagreement in the models. As of right now, it looks like the snow level will be around 7000′ in the morning and 3000′ in the afternoon. About half an inch of rain will likely fall in the morning with a few inches of snow in the afternoon and overnight. Sunday currently looks dry and clear with the free air freezing level around 2500’.

Gorge Wind Forecast

Light and variable wind this morning goes to W 10-13 after 2pm between Cascade Locks and The Dalles. East of the Dalles, we’ll have 20-23+ in the evening. Thursday looks like W 10-13 in the morning and W 7-10 in the afternoon. Friday starts with E 30-35 and goes calm by afternoon.

Random Morning Thoughts

I’m sitting at my computer looking around my house, and there’s this box on the floor that I left for my cat. One of the things I find most giggle-worthy is cats in small boxes. Google it for a laugh sometime.

Anyway, my cat is not a small-box cat. As a matter of fact, she’s the kind of cat who likes to perch on high objects and survey her surroundings. I keep hoping she’ll climb into the box, but after a couple years of having her, I should probably accept that she’s just not a box cat.

We do this with our people too. We hope they will behave in the ways that we want. We push them, cajole them, beg them, and criticize them, and mostly they don’t change. That’s not because people don’t change. They do – I see it in the counseling room all the time. It’s that we can’t make people change on our schedule. They can only change on their schedule. The best we can do is set a silent example by changing for the better ourselves.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go try and fit myself in that small box to set an example for my cat. Be awesome. Be the change you want to see. Have an awesome day.

White Sprinter Van of the Day

Road and Mountain Biking

I was just getting ready to head to Syncline yesterday afternoon when the rain started. My loss. Maybe you can get it early this morning before the rain starts up again? If not, tomorrow looks dry and so does Friday morning. The Twin Tunnels is open. If you want to go trail running, the Mosier Plateau Trail is open, and you can run up Post Canyon Road and then up to the power lines and back. I’m sure you could run something at Rowena Crest as well.

Upcoming Events

It’s Wednesday morning. There’s community meditation at Flow at 8:15. There’s community yoga at the FISH food bank at 10am. There’s ping pong at the Hood River Armory at 5pm and Zumba at the Parkdale Community Center at 6:30pm. Coming up Saturday, there’s a seed exchange at Rockford Grange in Hood River from 2pm to 5pm. You can also take a class about seed saving.

Have an awesome day today!
