Gorge Wind Forecast

Easterlies continue for a few more days. Wishing for westerlies? Looks like we’ll have them on Saturday and Sunday! Wednesday peaks with mid-morning easterlies at 20-25 from Rooster Rock to Viento. The wind drops to light easterly after 2pm. River flow is 112kcfs and temp is 64 degrees. High temp today: 84.

Thursday sees lighter westerlies – 15mph or so from Rooster to Viento in the morning. Afternoon: 5-10 near Stevenson and calm everywhere else in the Gorge. High temp: 85. Friday starts with E 5-10 from Rooster to Stevenson and turns light and variable in the afternoon. High temp: 85.

Kiting is allowed again at the Marina. Event Site Launch-and-Land starts October 5th. Lyle is now off limits unless you can get to the sandbar without crossing the RR tracks. If you cross the tracks, you will be ticketed. Lyle: loved to death. Roosevelt: still closed due to wind damage from earlier this year. Mosier is only available to residents of 97040 (Mosier).

Coast (north/central/south, waves. Direction north unless otherwise noted. Swell forecast from NWS.) Wednesday: LTV/LTV/N5-10, W swell 5′ at 11 seconds. Thursday: NW10-15/N15-20/N20-25, W 4′ @ 16 becoming 7′ @ 15. Friday: NW5-10/NW5-10/N5-10, W 6′ @ 12. Jones Wednesday: 7-10. Thursday: 5-10/ Friday: 14-17. Sauvie’s Wednesday: 5-10. Thursday: 5-10. Friday: 5-10.  

Hood River Weather Forecast

Cloud-free sky today (Wednesday) picks up some high-level smoke from the fires to the south of us. Other than that: sunshine. Temps will be in the upper 40’s early and mid 80’s later. Light east wind. No rainbows. Thursday and Friday look identical, with perhaps slightly warmer temps in the low 50’s in the morning.     Looking for a complete Columbia Gorge forecast? Cycling

9/30: Hood River County lands have reopened. 0.5” rain fell on Friday, 9/25 in Hood River. Mt. Hood National Forest: some areas have reopened. Expect many downed trees. Check their website for details. Syncline/Coyote Wall: reopened. Whoopdee, Hospital Hill, and Underwood and other SDS/Kreps lands have all reopened.

Local Events

Weekly events: there are sailboat races at the Hood River Marina every Wednesday evening. Dirty Fingers has a group mountain bike ride Thursday nights at 5:30pm. The small boat group has a friendly and distanced paddle on, I believe, Thursday nights. Cheno has an outdoor HIIT workout at Columbia High School in White Salmon at 6pm on Wednesday nights. That’s pretty much it for outdoor sports. There is a BLM rally every Tuesday evening at 5:30 at the Salmon Fountain in Hood River, and there’s a White Coats for BLM rally every Wednesday evening at 6pm at 12th and May.  

Current Closures (may not be complete)

Mt. Hood National Forest (all closed). Gifford Pinchot NF west of Indian Heaven and south of the 90/30 Roads. Kreps, SDS, and other private timberlands. DNR and ODF lands. Many places in the scenic area. Completeish list here.
