Mt. Hood Weather Forecast

Spring conditions continue on Mt. Hood for the next few days as clear sky and low humidity combine to freeze the snow overnight and turn it into corn during the day. For Tuesday, expect sunshine through early afternoon followed by high clouds. The free air freezing level (FAF) will be 4000′ early and 6000′ in the afternoon. Wind: NE 10 early, NW 5 in the afternoon, NW 5 overnight.

Wednesday looks clear. FAF: 5500′ early, 6000′ in the afternoon, and 4500′ overnight. Wind: W 5 early, W 20 in the afternoon, and NW 20 after midnight. Thursday looks clear. The freezing level will be 4500′ early, 7000′ in the afternoon, and 8000′ after midnight. Wind: NW 20 early and NW 10 from mid-afternoon on.

Gorge Wind

If you’re looking for a day with almost no wind, Tuesday is your day. Light easterlies at 5-10 flow through the entire Gorge for the entire day. It’s even possible the wind will drop into the “less than 5” range. River flow is 236kcfs and river temp is 50 degrees.

Wednesday starts out calm, but doesn’t finish up that way. A late-day marine push into the western half of Oregon amps up the wind. By midday, we should have 12-15 from Stevenson to Hood River. As a weak weather system move closer, driving that marine push, the focus of the westerlies shifts east. From mid-afternoon on, the Stevenson to Mosier stretch sees gusty 13-16. Rowena to Arlington gets gusty 23-26.

Offshore high pressure Thursday and Friday will probably bring steadier westerlies. Thursday starts with 10-13 through the entire Gorge as Wednesday’s weak system clears the area. In the afternoon, strong wind fires up in the western Gorge, Stevenson to the Dalles, at 23-26. Farther east: 10-13. Friday starts with 10-13 and picks up to 21-14 from Stevenson to Mosier.

JONES, SAUVIE’S, COAST: Jones Tuesday: 12-15. Wednesday: 14-17. Thursday: 12-15. Sauvie’s Tuesday: 12-15. Wednesday: 10-13. Thursday: 7-11. Coast (north/central/south). Tuesday: 15-20/10-15/25-30, NW swell 4′ at 9 seconds. Wednesday: 5-10/5-10/20-25, NW 3′ @ 11. Thursday: 5-10/10-15/25-30, NW 4′.

Road and Mountain Biking

Syncline is enjoying the poison oak and ticks. Post is getting dry, but it’s open top to bottom. The new climbing trail, Eldorado, is nothing short of awesome! Whoopdee is filled with wildflowers, and same goes for Columbia Hills. If you’re riding Underwood, please do not park at the trailhead any more as per request by SDS. There is a parking area 0.5 miles farther down the road. The cows are out on Hospital Hill, which happens to be private land owned by the Kreps family. Do not take your dog or you 1) endanger the life of your dog and 2) endanger access to the land for everyone.
