Mt. Hood Snow Forecast

Good morning, snow shredders! Models are coalescing around late next week as the timing for colder weather to return to the Pacific Northwest and our ski resorts. Between now and then, we’ll have some sunshine, some rain, and perhaps some snow towards the end of next week. Ski resorts are doing what they can – Timberline is going to open Palmer, weather permitting, and Meadows will re-open on Friday with some hope for Cascade and Vista. Cross your fingers!

In the meantime… Today brings a bit of drizzle to the mountain followed by partly cloudy sky (which doesn’t look great for Palmer, does it?). The snow level will be 6500′-7000′ all day. Just a trace of rain is forecast, thankfully. Wind: SW 10-20 all day turning to SE 15 overnight.

Friday looks partly high overcast. The free air freezing level (FAF) starts at 7000′, climbs to 10,000′ in the afternoon, and rises to 11,000′ after midnight. Wind: SE 15 in the morning, S 5-15 in the afternoon, and light/variable overnight. Saturday will be partly high overcast and warm. The free air freezing level will be 10,000′-11,000′ all day with temps at 5000′ rising to almost 50F. Wind will be light/variable early becoming W 10 in the afternoon and S 5-10 overnight. Hmm. Sounds like spring skiing, doesn’t it? Clear sky Sunday morning gives way to high clouds in the afternoon. The FAF will be 10,000′,. Wind: S 10-20.

Extended: light to moderate rain (snow level 8500′ early, 7000′ overnight, and 5500′ Tuesday morning) is forecast on Monday. Looking for something positive, we set our eyes on next Friday: models suggest colder weather combined with precipitation for at least some snow. After that: 850mb (5000′) temps appear to fall to 0C or less and stay there for at least a few days, which sets us up for snow from any incoming systems. Finally! nbsp;

Gorge Wind Forecast

Hi friends! Nice to spend some time on the water with you yesterday. Goodness are there a lot of people shredding at Stevenson right now. Is that cuz there’s no snow on the mountain, or is that because you’re all so stoked on water sports? Here’s some more stoke for you: at least six more days of east wind with continued above-normal temps.

Thursday starts with pressures of 30.11/30.21/30.23 for gradients of E 0.10 and E 0.02. Iwash (Rooster) Rock was 39mph prior to dawn (thanks, iWind/iKite), Stevenson was 17, and Viento was 20. The wind will fade to 20-25 by noon (and pick up to 20-25 at Stevenson, duh) and will add some drizzle from Cascade Locks westward. River flow yesterday was 86-160kcfs, river temp is 47F, and high temp forecast is 44F under mostly cloudy sky.

Friday starts with 40-45 at Iwash and 30-35 at Stevenson. Afternoon wind drops to 25-30 at Stevenson and 40 at Iwash. Viento: 20ish. High temp: 43F under partly high overcast sky. Saturday looks windy-enough, once again. Early easterlies will be 35-40 at Iwash and 25-30 at Stevenson with 20ish at Viento. Afternoon wind falls to 20-25 at Stevenson and 25-30 at Iwash. Sunday starts at 25ish and rises to 40ish in the afternoon. Monday looks 30ish. That’s enough for now. Enjoy!

No rainbows. Saturday starts with Nothing and high clouds and becomes partial Nothing with partly high overcast sky. Temps start in the low 30’s and rise to the low 40’s. Easterlies. No rainbows.

Regular weekly events:. NK Studio’s by-donation Tuesday morning yoga class is back. Ferment’s Tuesday night 4-mile walk/run is at 6pm. There’s meditation with monks at 5:15pm (an hour) and 6:30pm (30 minutes plus a talk) at Yoga Samadhi in White Salmon. The Tri Club is done for the season. At 7:15am on Wednesdays, there’s a run from the White Salmon Bakery. At 7am on Friday morning, there’s a run from Pine Street Bakery. On Fridays at 2:30pm, there’s a free meditation and stretching class at Yoga Samadhi. On Saturday at 9am, there’s a by-donation outdoor group fitness on the 2rd floor deck about Ferment Brewing.

Cycling

Regarding the trails in general: don’t ride in the mud. You’ll damage the trails. Don’t ride trails if it was below freezing the previous night and is above freezing when you want to ride. Ride gravel. Ride your trainer. Build trails. There are trail builders seeking extra hands on seven additional miles of trail on Whoopdee. Contact HRATS for more information. If you’re parking at Post Canyon, you will need a parking pass. Those can be purchased at many local shops or online.
