Mt. Hood Snow Forecast

Good news on the lift-serve front: Timberline plans to open Bruno’s and Pucci on Friday. Teacup’s been dragging a gadget around by snowmobile and grooming some trails for you. The trails would be in better shape, but a hunter decided it would be fun to drive around on every single trail. So… it’s skiable but bumpy and not ideal. Can you skate it? I did yesterday! Would it be more ideal on Classic? Probably. And can you skin up and ski down in other places? You sure can! Get it now, because there’s nearly nothin’ in the forecast until the 18th or so.

Thursday will be a brilliant and sunny day on the mountain. The free air freezing level will be 500′ this morning, 1500′ this afternoon, and 0′ overnight. No precip. Wind: WNW 10-20 this morning, light SW this afternoon, and SSW 5-15 overnight.

Friday will be cloudy all day with a chance of snow overnight. The snow level near Mt. Hood will be 0′ in the morning, 1000′ in the afternoon, and 0′ overnight with 850mb temps dropping to -4C by Saturday morning. A trace to an inch of snow is forecast overnight. Wind: SSW 5-15 in the morning, S 5-15 in the afternoon, and E 10 overnight.

Saturday will be cloudy early with a few flurries and then clear. The free air freezing level will be 0′ in the morning and 4000′ from the afternoon on. Wind: E 10 in the morning, NNE 10 in the afternoon, and NNW 10-15 overnight. This generally dry and cool weather sticks around through at least the 18th. After that, precip is more likely but not guaranteed, and models are disagreeing about whether it will be cold enough for snow-not-rain with the next round of active weather. Have a great day!

Cycling

Now we have freeze-thaw conditions. Please avoid trails that are exposed to the open air, in other words, trails that aren’t under the tree canopy. If you ride trails that froze and then thawed, you’ll do major and probably permanent damage to the tread. The Family Man closure kicked off on November 1st – the area around Family Man and Riordan Hill Road will be closed into December. Upper elevation trails, above 4000′, are likely to have some snow coverage. Rifle deer season is open in both Oregon and Washington, so consider wearing safety colors while you’re riding. If you’re riding Post Canyon, you will need a parking pass. Those can be purchased at many local shops or online.
