Mt. Hood Snow Forecast
Hi skiers and snowboarders! Haven’t been up to the mountain yet? You should go! The groom right now is awesome for carving, and the sun is an added bonus. Snow type: hardpack. The skategroom at Teacup yesterday (I’m obsessed with skating) was spectacular. Dry, mostly sunny weather continues through the middle part of next week. That’s followed by (probably) some rain. Above-freezing weather is forecast for the slopes through at least 12/7. Geez. That’s a long time. Make it snow again! Oh, wait, we’re still shredding on bonus time. Any lift-serve is great lift serve right now!
Thursday won’t be snowy, but there will be something falling from the sky: PHOTONS! Grab your sunscreen and head to the slopes for a pre-Thanksgiving meal of corduroy. The free air freezing level today will be 6000′, and temps will rise to the low 30s this afternoon. Wind: light and variable most of the day rising to WNW 10-20 after midnight.
Friday looks chillier: the free air freezing level will stay low, below the slopes, and temps will max out right around freezing at 5000′. That will preserve the snow quality. Sunshine sticks around for the first half of the day, but it gets filtered through high clouds in the afternoon. Wind: WNW 10-20 early becoming light and variable in the afternoon and evening.
Warmer weather is forecast for the weekend as a blob of above-freezing air aloft settles in over the Northwest. On Saturday, the free air freezing level rises from 6000′ in the morning to 9000′ in the afternoon and 10,000′ overnight. Temps max out in the low 40s at 5000′. Wind: variable to 10mph. Similar conditions are forecast on Sunday with temps rising all the way to the upper 40s. Despite the low sun angle, this will probably be warm enough to start transforming the snowpack. If you want hardpack, not granular, get it now.
Looking out into the future, we stick with warm weather for a while. Models agree on the potential (but not the amount) for rain around the mid-latter part of next week. As of this morning, the bulk of the rain looks to go north of us. Fingers crossed for that. Beyond next week, model agreement falls apart. The GFS (finally!) brings in colder weather. The Euro keeps it warm. The new AI weather model: on board with the GFS. It brings cooler, progressive, potentially snowy weather after next weekend. Fingers crossed. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving – hopefully you get some turns before you head to the turkey!
Gorge Wind Forecast
Hi friends! Lots of easterlies on the way, but probably not enough Thursday and Friday. Your family will be pleased to have you home at Thanksgiving instead of playing on the river! Thursday starts with easterlies at 20-25 near Iwash (Rooster) Rock. Stevenson joins with 15-20 for a few hours this morning. By early afternoon, the wind drops to 10mph at Iwash and 15 at Stevenson. That’s it for the day – it just keeps dropping. River flow over the last 24 hours was 83-140kcfs, river temp is 50.5F, and high temp forecast is 43F. Friday starts calm, rises briefly to 15mph at Stevenson, and fades. Overnight, the wind picks up .
Saturday’s opening shot is 35-40 at Iwash and 25-30 at Stevenson. Iwash drops about 10mph in the afternoon, but models have Stevenson holding at 25-30. High temp: 43F. Sunday looks like a carbon copy of Saturday. Slightly less wind is forecast on Monday. With the exception of passing high clouds, the weather should be sunny in the windy zones. That’s far enough into the future for now. Have a great day. Keep an eye on your buddies if you plan to play in the river – it’s cold out there!

It’s wet and muddy out there. Please don’t ride, or you’ll do significant trail damage. Then peeps have to fix your mess rather than building new trails. Nobody wants that! Everyone wants new trails. Be a good steward, and pick a different activity
