2/7 Mt. Hood snow and sun, Gorge light wind, and hey, the mountain biking is great right now!

It’s the 1st annual Winter Pledge Drive!

Thank you for using this forecast! It’s free to use, but it’s not free for me to write. I put about an hour a day into creating a (hopefully) accurate forecast, and I pay for the hosting on this website. If you use this forecast to pick the good days on the hill or on the river, if you find this report saves you gas money or time, please make a donation during pledge drive month! I’m just one gal with other jobs writing this for you! Your generosity keeps this going for everyone. I also send an email version of this forecast. Make a $12 or larger donation, and you’re on the email list for a year. No dealing with the pledge drive. Here’s how this works. If I get donations totally $15 or more today, I post a forecast tomorrow. To make this fair, I’ll update the color of the dot during the day as I can (a girl’s gotta work, you know.)

Tomorrow’s forecast status: Thank you, Charles B., and everyone else, for your support!

Good morning,

Ah work. The joy of solitary creative writing exercises in the pre-dawn darkness. What more could a girl want at this hour of day? Well, to start, a cup of coffee would be nice. I’m out, and so I’m drinking diet Rockstar instead. It’s just not the same as a warm, rich cup of Sumatra to start the day. At least there’s plenty of Pandora-powered trance music to wake my sleepy brain.

Speaking of waking the sleepy brain, the sun will likely come out in the Gorge this afternoon after a few light sprinkles during the day. Temps should hit the mid-forties this afternoon. Tomorrow starts off cold and partly cloudy in the Gorge, but should clear up some late in the day with temps in the forties. Saturday looks cloudy, with a few sprinkles possible, with low clouds in the afternoon. Temps Saturday will be below freezing early and in the low forties in the afternoon. Sunday looks clear and cold to start and clear and 40-something in the afternoon. Not a bad weekend at all!

On Mt. Hood, we’ll see decreasing snow flurries today (the silly TV people said we’d get a foot last night, but we only got 2”). The snow level will be at 1500′ today, and total accumulation will be less than 2”. Wind today will be SW 20-30 early, dropping to SW 15-20 in the early afternoon.

Tomorrow starts off partly cloudy on Mt. Hood, becoming clear, with the free air freezing level (FAF) at 1500′ early and 1000′ in the afternoon. Wind will be N 10-15 early, becoming NE 15-25 mid-morning.

Saturday looks cloudy on Mt. Hood with snow flurries bringing less than 2” of new snow. The snow level will be 1500′ early, rising to 2500′ early afternoon. Wind Saturday will be N 20-30 in the morning, swinging to NW 30 early afternoon and back to more northerly in the evening.

Sunday looks clear and cold, with the FAF at 500′ and NE or E wind at 15-25mph. If the forecast holds, dry, sub-freezing weather will continue on Mt. Hood through Friday, with periods of high clouds and a few flurries possible.

Don’t forget that there’s a join CAMBA / WTA work party at Syncline this weekend. WTA leads the day Saturday and CAMBA takes charge Sunday. Go work on your trail. You know you’ve been using it all winter. Now you can ‘pay’ for using that no-charge trail.

Have an awesome day today!

Good morning,

This was a much better start to my day off. I woke up at 3:30am, said, “hell no,” and did a high dive back into dreamland until 6:30am. Dreamland played nice, presenting long ski runs at Crystal Mountain. When I finally crawled off the couch, I found just enough coffee beans for one cup of French Press, not ideal, but far, far better than no coffee at all.

So, start your day with a cup of coffee or two, and prepare to play. Cooperative weather is on the docket for the Gorge: just a few sprinkles under partly cloudy sky with west wind. Road riding will be stellar today, with perfect pavement. I’m guessing Kreps land will be muddy, but Syncline should be good by afternoon. Whoopdee is reportedly a bit wet for both riding and digging, but the new uphill has left Steve’s imagination for a more tangible state of being: flagged. If you’re interested in doing some midweek trailbuilding soon, shoot me an email and I’ll put you in touch with Steve.

Speaking of trail work, there’s a join CAMBA / WTA work party at Syncline this weekend. WTA leads the day Saturday and CAMBA takes charge Sunday. Go work on your trail. You know you’ve been using it all winter. Now you can ‘pay’ for using that no-charge trail. Oh yes… according to an unnamed someone who had a conversation directly with USFS (a legit someone who asked not to be ID’d), USFS is considering enforcing the dog-on-a-leash rule out there. If you see a white truck with USFS on the side, don’t bring your leash-free dog with you.

Anyway, light west wind, light showers in the Gorge today. A few more showers and light wind tomorrow in the Gorge. Then morning inversion and afternoon sunshine on Friday, with temps climbing into the mid-forties, and maybe even some all-day sunshine from Saturday on, as high pressure and west wind team up in the extended forecast.

On Mt. Hood, there’s 5” of new this morning, but we’ll just see a few more flurries mixed with sunbreaks today. The snow level will be 2500′ early and 3000′ in the afternoon. Wind will be W 25 in the morning and SW 15 in the afternoon.

Mt. Hood will pick up a little more snow tomorrow: The snow level will be 3000′ early, falling to 1500′ by mid-morning. Snow starts around 1am, with .2-.3” WV falling by 4pm for 2-3” of new. And that’s it for snow for the next week or so. Wind will be SW 30 early, W 20 mid-morning and SW 10 in the afternoon.

Friday looks clear on Mt. Hood with the free air freezing level (FAF) at 1500′. Wind will be N 15, picking up to N 20-30 in the afternoon.

We might see some high clouds Saturday morning, but it will clear off. The FAF will be 1500-2000′ all day with N wind at 20-30. Repeat ad infinitum.

Have an awesome day today!
