3/2 Mt. Hood snow, Gorge wind, and trail work parties.

Thank you for using this forecast! Your donations keep this forecast going – despite rumors to the contrary, nobody pays me to write this and post it. This forecast started as a way for me to find better windsurfing conditions. It morphed into a way for me to find better skiing in the winter. Seemed silly to keep that information to myself, so it’s here for you (almost) every day. Make a $12 or larger donation, and you’re on the email list for a year. No dealing with the twice-yearly pledge drive. Sometimes I even have prizes to give away from the email list sponsors. Thank you again for your support! Enjoy the snow and wind and sun!

Good morning,

Well, at least the rain has stopped on Mt. Hood! If you’re looking for something to do today, consider heading over to Syncline for the 8:30am WTA trail work party. If that doesn’t work for you, there’s a repeat tomorrow and also a Spaghetti Factory work party, meeting at 9am at Post Flats staging area.

In other news, it’s time for another round of Interesting, Gorge. What’s that, you ask? It’s 3-minute talks and stories on any subject you like. Think about it: there’s something you could talk about, isn’t there? Head to the Interesting website for more information, and fill out a speaker application today! Don’t worry… you’re going to hear about this again.

In weather news, can we just go back a day and relive? Sure, it started out pretty crappy, with fog and rain, but by afternoon, when I was riding my bike on Cherry Heights in The Dalles, it was jersey-and-shorts riding weather with sunshine and upper 50’s. Ok. Reliving done. Today in the Gorge will be partly to mostly cloudy, becoming cloudy, with temps in the mid-40’s early and low 50’s in the afternoon. Wind will be light W early, becoming gusty W 20-23 in the afternoon. We’ll see rain sprinkles overnight.

The Gorge tomorrow will be partly cloudy with temps in the upper 30’s early and mid-40’s in the afternoon with westerlies at 26-30 east of the low clouds. Monday starts off just below freezing and clear, with temps rising into the mid 40’s in the afternoon.

Up on Mt. Hood, today starts with thin high overcast, becoming cloudier in the afternoon with snow starting around 7pm. The snow level will be 9000′ early, 7000′ in the afternoon and 5000′ at 7pm, falling to 1000′ or so by Sunday morning. We’ll see .2-.4” water value (WV) overnight, for 2-4” of new snow. Wind today will be SW 20 early, SW 30 in the afternoon and SW 35-40 overnight.

Sunday starts off with sunbreaks and flurries, becoming clear, with clouds moving in during the afternoon with a few more flurries. The snow level will be 1000′ in the morning, rising to 1500-2000′ in the evening. No snow accumulation. Wind will be NW 30-40 early, 25-30 mid-morning and 20-25 in the evening.

Monday looks clear and cold on Mt. Hood, with the free air freezing level around 1000. Wind will be light and variable early, E 10-20 midday and SW 20-25 in the afternoon.

Tuesday starts off cloudy on Mt. Hood with snow starting some time in the morning. The snow level looks to be around 3000′, and it looks like we’ll see around .5” (or more) of water value through Wednesday morning with moderate SW wind.

Have an awesome day today!

Thank you for using this forecast! It’s free to use, but it’s not free for me to write. I put about an hour a day into creating a (hopefully) accurate forecast, and I pay for the hosting on this website. If you find this service valuable (gets you the good days on the mountain, saves you gas and time, etc.) please donate. I’m just one gal with other jobs writing this for you! Your generosity keeps this going for everyone. I also send an email version of this forecast. Make a $12 or larger donation, and you’re on the email list for a year. No dealing with the twice-yearly pledge drive. Thank you again for your support!

Good morning,

First off today, happy March, and a big thank you to everyone who donated during the February pledge drive. Apparently I’m too OCD to take a day off!

I’m super excited today. Why? No, not about the sequester. I’m pretty pissed about that. I’m excited because it’s already 52° in the Gorge, and the weather models say it’s going to be near 60° today! Biking in shorts! Playing in the garden! No down jacket! Hooray! As of 6am, it was still sprinkling, but it’ll stop, and become partly cloudy or maybe even sunny in the Gorge. Wind will be W 10-15 early becoming light this afternoon.

Tomorrow looks cloudy in the Gorge with light west wind becoming W 21-24 in the afternoon. Temps will be in the upper 40’s early and low 50’s in the afternoon. Rain falls overnight Saturday into Sunday, for .2-.3” total. Sunday starts off cloudy with sprinkles in the Gorge. Temps will be in the low 40’s in the morning and mid-40’s in the afternoon. By the afternoon, we’ll have partly cloudy sky with fairly steady west wind at 28-32 east of Mosier.

Up on Mt. Hood, it’s raining this morning. Well, sprinkling, to be exact. Very annoying. The sprinkles will give way to sunshine this afternoon. The freezing level will be 10,000′ or so all day. Wind will be W 30-35 this morning, becoming WSW 20 this afternoon.

Tomorrow starts off warm and partly cloudy on Mt. Hood, becoming cloudy midday with snow flurries starting around 7pm. The snow level will be 9,000′ early, 5500′ at 4pm, 4500′ when the snow starts, and 1500′ overnight. We’ll get .5-.7” water value overnight, for 5-8” of new snow by Sunday morning. Wind Saturday will be SW 20 in the morning, SW 30 in the evening and W 30 overnight.

Sunday starts with snow flurries and sunbreaks, with the weather becoming clear and sunny late in the afternoon. The snow level will be 1000′-2000′ all day. We’ll get .1-.2” WV in the morning for 1-2” of new snow. Wind will be W 35-40 in the morning, 30-35 at 10am, WNW 30 at 1pm and NW 20-30 in the evening.

Monday looks partly cloudy on Mt. Hood becoming clear in the afternoon. The snow level will be 500′ early and 2000′ in the afternoon. Wind will be light and variable early, rising to SW 20 mid-morning and SW 30 in the afternoon. Tuesday looks snowy and cold.

In other news, here are the upcoming trail work parties… Sat/Sun 8:30am, WTA at Syncline. Sun, 9am, Spaghetti Factory, Post Flats Staging Area. Sunday, March 10th: CAMBA/HRATS small work party at Syncline. Sat/Sun March 16/17, WTA at Syncline. Possible mid-week, midday work parties March 12th-March 16th on GP in Post Canyon.

Have an awesome day today!
